Hi Lori, I became pregnant at just over 5 months post op due to in-

effective birth control pills (malabsorption, you know...) and

miscarried at 7 weeks. Upon learning of my pregnancy I omitted my

regular multi vitamin and started taking 2 prenatals, 1400 micrograms

of folic acid, iron, 1600 mg of calcium citrate, and sub-lingual B-

complex vits each day. After the miscarriage I continued taking this

same amount of vits, knowing that as I neared 1 yr post op I would

want to try to conceive again.

I'm still taking the exact same vitamins and doseages and all my

blood work results are coming back in the normal range.

I spoke with my OB about the glucose testing, telling him my concerns

and he was very understanding and told me that there are other

indications to look for and other ways to test for gestational

diabetes without having to go the glucose or jelly bean route. I'm

glad I spoke with my OB early on about this because now I can go to

my appointments without worrying about when he was going to " make " me

take the dreaded test.

Good luck trying to conceive and keep us posted.

Hello Lori,

First off welcome to the group! I am also kinda new to this group. I joined

about a week and a half ago. It been great getting all these questions off

my chest and knowing everyone one here can relate.

> Did any of you take prenatal before trying?

**No but I have been taking 2 multi vitamins daily for

the past 2.5 years.

> Did you take one a day or two?

**Two.

> Did you take your other supplements in addition to the

prenatal?

**I also took 1 iron and 1 vitamin C at the same time --

now I am taking the same dose PLUS a prenatal.

>So, any recommendations on the vitamins?

>Keep the others and just replace one multi with the prenatal?

**I don't know if your Dr says the same but my Gastric Bypass

Dr says to take the same vitamins I have been taking PLUS a

prenatal. The pills that we normally take before we become

pregnant(or in your case--WILL be pregnant)thats the amount

that WE need. The prenatal that we will take is extra for

the little baby. So, I continued what I WAS taking and add

an extra pill for the baby. Thats just what I was told to

do. Keep us informed on your status - ita :)

Hi,

Glad to hear your good news. You have answered a question I have been trying to

find for a long time. You said taking the pill after weight loss you got

pregnant. Why is the pill not effective any more and what did your doctor

suggest would be an alternate route of birth control for you. I have been

trying to get answers from this group and no one seems INTERESTED!! What about

the new IUD's any thoughts on that. Thanks
