Hi,

Congratulations on your little boy!! I choose the DS procedure

because I wanted to maximum my weight loss and I wanted use of my

original stomach not to mention it is little bigger than RNY. I

wanted to be able to eat almost normal portions (appetizer sizes)

within a year or so. My surgeon says that I should be able to eat a

whole sandwich by now, but that is not possible. I can eat a half of

a sandwich and maybe drink about 4oz. of water with it which is fine

with me. But what I have read about the RNY and DS from other

websites and talked with people at my surgeon's support groups, it

seems that the weight loss really depends on the person. My surgery

was done open so I do have a scar going horizontally across my

stomach right above my belly button. What is funny is it seems like

when I found out I was PG, my plateau ended and I have lost 5 pounds

in the last week!! But I wouldn't trade my DS surgery for

anything. What made you decide on DS?

The same things you think are bad about DS are the same things I

hate... the malabsorption and the bathroom runs. My bathroom issues

are usually first thing in the morning and if I watch my intake on

sugar, then I am fine for the rest of the day. At first, I felt

that I spent most of my day in the bathroom *-) (Sorry if TMI). I

had 160 pounds that I wanted to lost and I have 63 more pounds to go

since I wasn't at my goal when I got PG. About the iron pills, do

you take prenatal and Iron pills? Or, do the prenatal vitamins do

fine by themselves? I am thinking of having my iron level checked

at my next OB/GYN appt. in March to make sure that I am getting

enough Iron since I had anemia problems prior to WLS and after WLS.

Iron is something you don't want to take too much of so you definitely want

to make sure you check with your doctor regarding how much iron you should

be ingesting. Iron -- from what i know and I could be wrong -- is something

that is toxic in too high quantities. So definitely check that out with your

surgeon or ob before you start adding more than just your prenatal vitamin.

Better safe than sorry.
