I would relax and use warm compresses on your breasts and do massages. The 2nd milk or hind milk should come out. Sometimes it really takes a few minutes to get it to flow. This time I purchased the Avent ISIS manual pump and it works like a charm. I too have large breasts but didn't use a breast shield (38DD) Ok, the only other thing I can tell you is that when I pumped and concentrated on the pumping I got very little and when I carried on a conversation or read a magazine etc and relaxed it would flow like a sieve?? I also was told that if I nurse my DS and then an hour later tried to pump the milk supply would increase. I later found that if I pumped right after or right before feeding him I go more. Guest guest Posted February 4, 2004 Report Share Posted February 4, 2004 I suggest slowing down the pump after your milk comes in. I have the pump-in-style advanced, which has multiple speeds and it helps to slow down the suction after a minute or two. Not sure if you can do that on your pump or not? Maybe try getting a diaper wet with really hot water and applying it to your breasts before pumping. It should help with the let down. Also make sure that you've put the pump pieces together properly. If the hoses are backwards, it doesn't work (the thick end of the hose goes into the machine and the small end goes into the bottle attachment). Good luck! I'd say if nothing else works, try calling a lactation specialist to sit down and watch while you pump to see what's happening. Guest guest Posted February 5, 2004 Report Share Posted February 5, 2004 I have to agree with Christy. I had an electric pump with my first, and a manual Avent with my second child. The Avent worked much better than the electric one. Plus, it was much quieter so I could pump discreetly when I needed to. I recommended it to everyone that I've known that has been pregnant in the last five years. I'm definitely going to buy a new Avent with this pregnancy since my " old one " has been long since passed on! RNY 12/11/01 -137 EDD #3 10/07/04!!!
