Okay, we're going in for one night each time - if that. Sometimes we may just

do it round trip. But anyway, we're trying to decide if it's worth the savings

to land at the RMH for a few hours sleep or just hit the RR. Any thoughts?

Suggestions? Our appts at the moment are at 8:30 so I'm not sure we can get our

room back done/laundry, etc. in time to roll out and be on time after just a few

hours sleep. What's the reality of it all? I've only stayed in an RMH here in

Ohio and they had different rules...

This is precisely why we prefer to stay at a hotel. Don't get me wrong, the RMH

is a wonderful place and we took advantage of it twice, buti t's so much easier

to not have to deal with cleaning a room, doing chores, and everything else when

you have drove all day the day before, and then got up early for an appointment

and another day of driving.

I'm not sure what time you are leaving on Sunday. We always had to leave early

in the morning and spent the whole night at the RMH or hotel. At 12.5 hours

drive time there really was no other option for us.

If Dr. Ponseti does casting, they will ask you to soak the casts before coming

in for the appointment. That always left one of us to soak and one to do all

the chores, repacking, loading the car, etc., etc. With the added time of

soaking, staying at a hotel gave us a few extra minutes of sleep.

There are other advantages of the RMH though. Number one being it is way

cheap!! Also you can bring food and prepare it there and not have any eat out

expenses. We usually stay at the Red Roof and they have a complimentary

breakfast.

When we were there they never asked us to launder the sheets, we just had to

change the bedding and clean the room. The dirty bedding was turned in and they

did the washing. They do have a list of house chores and they ask that you

complete the one for your room number for the day that you stay.

About Dr. Ponseti, I have to say that we had much the same experience as was

previously posted. Our first visit there I was sitting in the infamous rocking

chair while Livie was on my lap. Dr. P was manipulating her foot and she was

freaking. I was trying to get her calmed down while still having her face

forward so he could work on her foot. It was nothing unusual for us, all her

prior orthos (3 total) had just worked through the screaming. I was astounded

when Dr. Ponseti said that it was quite painful for her and asked me to turn her

and comfort her. He also actively took part in trying to comfort her with toys

that the nurses brought in. That was the first and last time we had that

expereience. Apparently whatever was causing her pain, he worked it out with

that first cast. She never even whimpered while he was touching her foot after

that. Even the day of the tenotomy, there was minimal crying. We were right

down the hall and never heard her cry. When we went back to the room he was

finishing up her cast. He told us that she was an angel and had only cried a

little bit and called her one brave little baby!

Good luck with your trip and let us know how things go!!

An 8:30 appt would be tough unless you came back after the appt. to clean your

room.

When we do a turn around trip for a one-day check up (from Oklahoma) we use

hotel's also, for the convenience of avoiding the lengthy check-in time and room

cleaning.
