Guest guest
, Our babies are only 3 days apart in age. Kelsey was born on 11/7/03. She had her tenotomy on Oct 29 and just got out of her 3 week cast. She had quite a bit of pain in the recovery room in the hospital. They had to give her more IV pain meds to make her comfortable before we brought her home. She slept a lot afterwards but did not seem to have much pain after that. If his foot in the cast is not used to being turned out that much, it could possibly be causing him pain. Kelsey had that problem with her earlier casts and would not be able to sleep. I know it is hard when they are a year old but I would put a folded up blanket up under Kelsey's leg with her cast when she was trying to sleep to elevate it some. She had started to have some pain from the cast in the last few days of her 3 weeks so we started doing this again. It would help with the sleep a little bit. Hope that helps a little. Guest guest
I would try elevating his feet while he is lying down and if that does not work I would take him back to Shriner's there may be something wrong. Have you checked his toes? When you press on them they should turn white and when you release they should immediately turn pink. If this does not happen then you should bring him right in to the doctor. That is also a sign of a problem. onemorebb tristan2@...> wrote: had his tenotomy yesterday morning and has been having trouble sleeping ever since. Guest guest
, Logan is 4 months and on his 5th cast with the 3rd dr. Between the time when he did not have cast on, which i think was for about three or four weeks straight he would be fine at night and not cry but now that he is in cast again he cries in his sleep at night. Maybe i am just guessing but for Logan i thinks his legs and feet ache at night when he is still and not moving around like he does during the day. He cannot get comfortable at night. But then on the other hand I think Logan may cry in his sleep out of habit. Who knows. I do need some of that Tylenol with codeine. lol. Hopefully he will have his tenotomy in late December so we can wait until January to get the shoes because then i will have money in my cafeteria plan and can get reimbursed. onemorebb tristan2@...> wrote: had his tenotomy yesterday morning and has been having trouble sleeping ever since. Good luck with everything, it sounds like you're not far behind us. seems much better. He napped for over two hours with the Tylenol and codeine, then got up, ate lunch and played for about an hour. Just now he went back to sleep without the Tylenol and codeine and seems comfortable. I am trying to keep his feet elevated as others recommended while he's asleep. I think part of the problem was that he was very overtired. Thanks for everyone's responses, it's so reassuring to have this group. and 11/10/03 bilateral clubfeet

He had a long nap this morning and just went back to sleep with no problem after lunch and a little playtime. I think he was overtired and not able to cope with whatever pain he was experiencing. I think once he catches up on his sleep he'll be fine. and 11/10/03 bilateral clubfeet
Guest guest
Hi, My daughter had two Tenotomy sugeries. I can't say that she was uncomfortable. I do know that it's been said if the casting is on too tight, it can cause discomfort. Not to mention if the feet were not manipulated correctly, or if they are overlly stretched after the tenotomy, that can also cause discomfort. I thank GOD I was casted myself - not for clubbed feet, but for several knee surgeries. That's been a positive for me with my daughter because I can relate. My casts were from toe to as high up on my thighs as they can go. Keep an eye for " ballooning " toes or if they are not pink or if you touch them, their color doesn't come back (they are of their natural color, when touched they can turn white and then back to their natural color). Just remember, too much Tylenol can cause their bodies to get used to it and therefore later on not work. a Holland pandlholland@...> wrote: , Logan is 4 months and on his 5th cast with the 3rd dr. I've called Shriner's, but they are so busy no one's gotten back to me yet. I thought I'd ask here since so many of your children have had the tenotomy. On a more positive note, the doctor was very pleased with the outcome of his feet and feels they are perfectly corrected.
