Guest guest
Oh wow... that's weird... my doc had me take exactly 19 Brach's jelly beans for my test... I wonder what the difference is there? > In a message dated 1/7/2004 11:40:32 PM Eastern Standard Time, > sij2003@c... writes: > have another question. how did they perform the > glucose test for you considering it is almost all sugar? > Hey, Jake's Mom. > > I'm only 11w2d, but I asked my doctor about this because I was borderline > gestational diabetic with all 3 of my other pregnancies. Guest guest
If you are that worried I would outright refuse it and stick to it. I am NOT taking anything I think may make me sick. I thought they could test my morning fasting sugars and then I could go eat some breakfast and then come back and have them tested after eating. I see no problem with my idea and I know that it will not make me sick. I did have slight gestational diabetes with both my pregnancies but was able to keep it in check with a well balanced diet. I think as long as I do the same this time around I will be fine too, so I am not stressing it and I am not lettingmy doctor talk me into anything. This is just my opinion for me, everyboody is different, but I thought I would share Best of luck to all. HUGS, ROBIN, NY Age- 41 Due Date- #4 July 27th, 2004 OPEN RNY 10-18-02 378/246/170??? Guest guest
My doctor and I also discussed the glucose test at my last appointment. She really wants me to take it. She wants me to eat 50 jelly beans. I realize there are many different sizes of beans. She said that would be 50 grams of sugar. I explained to her that I would be very ill if I did that. She said she will think about it. She really wants me to do the test. Her past patient who had WLS prior to pregnancy apparently was able to take the test with no problem. I tried to explain that we each react differently to sugar. It was very frustrating. She seems to be a very nice doctor but I am going to have to hold my ground. Could too much sugar at one time be harmful to the baby? Lee
Guest guest
When I was pregnant with my post-WLS baby I also fasted overnight, had my blood taken in the am, then went to the hospital cafeteria and ate, and my blood tested again. That worked well. I agree with Robin. I would not ingest something that would get me sick just because my OB wanted me too. Actually I was my OB's first WLS patient. He actuallyy called my Bariatric surgeon regarding the gluecose testing for me. Re: Re: jELLY BEAN TEST FOR GLUCOSE > If you are that worried I would outright refuse it and stick to it. Guest guest
I would stand your ground. I had to continually reinforce to my OB that I would not drink 55g of sugar. Your doctor can " think about it " all she wants but she can't make you do anything you don't want to. It's your body and your baby. I know people who do just fine drinking the glucose and I've heard of others passing out. I'm just not taking a chance. My doctor finally gave in and is doing a 1- hour post prandal (even though I told her most do the 2-hour) and the Hemoglobin A1C. Good Luck!
