I would've been a nervous wreck about the surgery he was going to have before we found our Ponseti doctor. But this is much less invasive and requires less anesthesia. Wish me calm nerves! Guest guest
That is wonderful. will be cast free and your trips will decease immensely before all the holidays! We've been going to Shriner's Hospital in Springfield, MA for the last 6 weeks. is now a year old, his birthday was today, and we found the Ponseti method 4 days before he was scheduled to have major surgery on his feet with a non-Ponseti doctor. Last week the doctor didn't seem sure he would be able to correct 's feet without surgery and I was feeling depressed. I had decided if he couldn't correct them we would go see Dr. Ponseti. However, today when we went he said was ready for a tenotomy followed by shoes and a bar. So he's scheduled to have the tenotomy Nov. 23! I'm so happy. The weekly 440 mile round trip, even with Angel Flight, was beginning to get to me. That was the best birthday present ever! I never thought I'd be looking forward to surgery, but I am. and bi-lateral club feet
Guest guest
We just went through the tenotomy with general anesthesia two weeks ago and it was much harder on me than it seemed to be on Kelsey. She did wake up in pain but they took care of that pretty immediately and then she cam home and slept for 5 1/2 hours. Good luck and I will send good thoughts your way. Our doctor says he will have the surgery first thing in the morning and if he seems happy and not in pain he can go home around 1:00 PM. Guest guest
kelsey's surgery was at 7:30 AM and we were home by noon, and we live an hour from the hospital. We were back in the recovery room with her at about 8:30. Then, they gave her some pain medication in her IV because she woke up in pain. They kept her long enough to make sure she was keeping down fluids and to make sure she had no adverse reactions from the pain medication. Then we came home. She did throw up once in the car on the way home when we got stuck in traffic and she had a ton of apple juice and pain medication on top of an empty stomach but the anesthesiologist told us that nausea and vomiting were rare in small children. I kind of expected it from Kelsey though because I have a terrible time with general anesthesia myself. Guest guest
Our surgery was scheduled for 730 am and we were in the car on the way home at 9 am. It was very quick. onemorebb tristan2@...> wrote: > We just went through the tenotomy with general anesthesia two weeks ago > and it was much harder on me than it seemed to be on Kelsey. They did say they thought he'd be released around 1:00 PM and I expect we'll do surgery about the same time you did. They said first thing in the morning. That is quick! I'm glad to know it's not a big deal. Compared to the three hour surgery with pins in his bones, etc. that he almost had, this seems like nothing. Guest guest
The day before the surgery, I spoke with the day surgery nurse and she told we would be at the hospital most of the day. That the surgery would be 1 and 1/2 hours and then we would be in recovery for 3 to 4 hours. We honestly had enough time to walk into the waiting room and get a cup of coffee and the surgeon was out telling us he was done. I finished my coffee and we were in recovery. nursed, pooped and burped and we were discharged. When they do the GA, it is just a twilight sleep to immobilize them to make the surgery less traumatic on the child. They still used a local and tylenol rectally for pain management. onemorebb tristan2@...> wrote: > Our surgery was scheduled for 730 am and we were in the car on the way home at 9 am. He did say it would be a light anesthesia. I'm so relieved.
