Guest guest
Today, we had the tenotomy and we didn't use a local. I know some of you must be horrified but let me explain. The whole way there I had every intention of having them give him a local. The last thing I want is my child to be in pain of ANY kind - he's been through enough. The doctors group we go to are the most kind hearted and truly care about the children they treat as well as the parents. They assured me it doesn't hurt him any more than giving the local as babies central nervous system isn't as developed. Yes, they feel a little pain but no more than they'd feel with the shot. It's very quick and from their experience kids act no difference with or without the local in this scenario. I trust my doctors and let them do it their way. I went to the waiting room. 25 minutes later Dr Kahn came and got me. I walked back and Aidan had been cleaned up, his diaper changed, clothes back on, new casts on, the nurse was rocking him and he was sound asleep (snoring). We had an hour 1/2 drive home and he slept the whole way. He woke up fussy (but not screaming) I fed him and he's back asleep. Honestly, it hasn't been any different than one of our casting days. We'll see what tonight brings but so far so good. I did give him some baby Advil right before the procedure. Since, it was something new I thought I'd share it. I also found out today, that they have discussed the matter with Dr. P and he agrees. Anyway, thought it was very interesting. & Aidan (blcf 8/5/04) __________________________________________________
