I find that interesting about the Trisomy 18 - tte was also thought to

have Trisomy 18 - but that was not the case - could this be a start of

something...anyone else have a false positive.??

Just wondering

Hi All,

I know that Trisomy-18 was one of the tests they did on

immediately following his birth. Also, Trisomy-13 and Downs. All were

negative, of course.

I did not have the testing done while I was pregnant so I didn't have

any results, but the doc threw Trisomy-18 out a couple times when

being questioned about what could possiably be causing Coby's IUGR.

I think I had that idea brought up - is Trisomy 18 the one where the child

dies shortly after birth? That was especially painful for me to hear,

since I had lost our first due to miscarriage and had started with those

'empty arms' longings since that time.

I thought it was interesting with all the fancy specialists I saw while

pregnant that it took my sister who's a nurse to say she really thought I

was just going to have a 'little person', which is the acceptable term for

a dwarf in the Little People of America. I think the Lord really spoke

through her that day! As hard as having special needs can be, it's

wonderful to be a mom of a live child after thinking I couldn't, even

though I used to think I didn't want children! Sure, I get frustrated, but

I also have a special joy!!

My bloodwork was flagged for trisomy 18 too! Of course I did amnio to rule

out, and of course trisomy was ruled out and at that point Quetzie was said

to be " a healthy baby girl! " ( We wanted to know the sex since we had to do

the amnio anyway. )

I find this whole discussion very intriguing.

Inga,

You are correct, trisomy-18 does mean the child will die shortly

after birth. I think they could live up to a year or two if I am not

mistaken.

Hi, my name is and I am Jonah's mom; he is almost 17 months with RSS. I

too had a false negative during pregnancy and did an amnio because the doctors

were worried about trisomy 18. I find this very strange.
