Guest guest
Does anybody know what a hist panel is? My DD had one recently and they called today and said that she is not immune to pneumonia (had the vaccine so should be). They want us to give her the adult version of the vaccine immediately. Guest guest
Hi, I'm not sure of the name Hist Panel, but I do know about children and grown-ups who aren't immune to the pneumonias even after the vaccine. I have a primary immune deficiency (in other words, congenital/inherited/genetic not AIDS) that means, although I make an adequate amount of something called immunoglobulins, they don't work very well and I am not immune to the pneumonias. In bigger terms, what that means is that I do not have a good immune response to the "polysaccharide coated bacteria" - that means any bacteria that is polysaccharide coated (and there many) I am not able to fight off as well. For me, it translates into many many sinus and ear infections (I've been lucky b/c it has only ended up in pneumonia once for me). I assume the docs are worried about your dd's immune system functioning? Have they done an immunoglobulin panel (IgA, IgG's, IgE, and IgM)? They need to if they're worried about this. They also should do an IgG subclass panel (there are 4 types of IgG - typically when kids/adults aren't immune to the pneumonias their IgG2 is low or just not functioning). I get gammaglobulin that I used to take IV and now do subcutaneous and it has helped keep bad infections away - it works, for me, very well. If you have more questions, please feel free to ask. Just put Anne R in the subject line and I'll make sure to pay close attention. Anne R
