Guest guest
Hello! I'll try to make this short. My son (DOB 6/12/02) has had developmental delays and other issues since he was approx 4 months old. After a very long road to a diagnosis we got the results of the mitochondrial enzymes today. The muscle biopsy was performed in Phoenix and frozen. The pathology was done in the local lab (showed increase in lipids and lysosomal vacuoles suggestive of a mitochondrial disease). The enzymes were sent to Athena and the results came in today as follows: cytochrome c oxidase .56 (ref range >1.41) succinate-cytochrome c reductase .19 (ref range >.35) rotenone-sensitive NADH cytochrome c reductase .34 (ref range >.52) NADH dehydrogenase 6.82 (ref range > 6.82) succinate dehydrogerase .4 (ref range >.47) citrate synthase 30.71 (ref range 7.33-12.43) Comments: This analysis indicates that this individual possesses deficiencies and/or partial deficiencies of cytochrome c oxidase, succinate cytochrome c reductase, rotenone sensitive NADH cytochrome c reductase, and NADH dehydrogenase activities with mitochondrial proliferation. If anyone knows what any of this means I'd love to hear a translation. Also, I've read that perhaps Athena Labs isn't very accurate. Could anyone provide details on why this reputation exists? Thanks!
