I took Lea in to the pediatrician yesterday because she has been

doing alot of gagging and throwing up, possibly related to her loss

of oral skills in the past few days. Like any mito child, she has

her cycles of weakness, and right now she seems to be incredibly

weak in her gross motor skills, but her oral skills are completely

lacking as compared to where she was before. OR- I thought maybe the

throwing up was causing her to NOT want to eat... Either way, I knew

she needed medical attention.

Her blood tests came back a little off from what they should have

been. Her total CO2 (I think that's what the ped said on the phone

when I talked to her) was only 17, which is pretty low and should be

22. So she said the word " acidosis " - which I never got a good answer

as to WHAT it was, and what needs to be done to correct it. As far

as I know, it just means that her body isn't elminating acid like it

should be-- but what causes this? Could this be what is causing her

weakness? or is her weakness a symptom of this? What can be done to

fix this?

Also, her blood sugar was a little low. She didn't have any thoughts

on that... although she said she was waiting to hear back from Lea's

dr at mayo to find out what we should do next.

And what is really strange is that even though she hasn't eaten much

in the last few days, she had gained 12oz in 9days!! I wondered if

she could be retaining fluids- the ped said that she didn't look

swollen to her-- but I really wonder. Lea goes through stages where

she just doesn't seem to have many wet diapers- for no apparent

reason.

Any thoughts?
