Matt has been in the hospital since Sunday and finally came home today. He had a stomach virus. Every time he seemed better, he would throw uo his nightly g tube feeds, so he was admitted. What a disaster!!! His first iv blew and had to be placed again. The doc they sent stuck him at least 10 different times--even in his fingers!! They finally got it in his ankle. You have to realize though that it took 3 hours to find someone to place it--hard to believe. I made a stink and told them that for him to be without the iv for so long was dangerous and if they did not find someone immediately I was taking him to a different hospital. This was all happening at midnight and Matt was exhausted. When I told them I would leave with him they told me that they would report me to Child Protective services. I said fine, and I will sue you for malpractice. Now I know you dont know me, but believe me I am not the type of parent who needs to be reported. I was worried about my child. They finally placed the iv in his ankle. Yesterday evening I kept telling the nurses that it looked swollen. Everyone was ignoring me--until his leg blew up like a balloon. The iv had come out of the vein and the D 10 was infiltrating his tissue. When they finally removed the bandage he had terrible swelling. He now looks like a burn victim--open,oozing sores and horrible blisters. He cant walk on his leg. It took me 5 hours to get ointment for him. It is so pathetic to see him like this. Right now I am waiting for my friend who is a dermatologist to come over and see him. Lets just say I will never be back at that hospital again!!! Thanks for listening. I could not wait to get home so I could share this with the people who understand the most. Jill, Matts mom, scad
