I haven't posted in a long time, so I'm not sure if anyone will

remember me. My son Ronan is 4 years old and has a probable complex

IV defeciency.He is highly affected,has a g-tube, is nonverbal, in a

wheelchair, very low tone except for his dystonia. We are considering

a portacath. Although he isn't hospitalized too often (may be 3 to

6 max per year), the past few hospitalizations have been more severe

and he has required TPN and bipap during hospitalization. Also,

because of his dystonia, his IV's usually only last 2 days max.

What experiences have you had with portacath? Ronan is very thin

and sleeps on his tummy, what locations are the best. Have they

been farily easy to maintain? Ronan has always done well with

anesthetics if he is healthy going in. Any input would be greatly

apprectiated.
