Just a thought regarding hearing aid funding... I would check with "Hear Now" in Colorado. It's a program that helps people obtain hearing aids. - Hearing Aid Funding Hi Everybody :) One of my friends just found out that her daughter (age 5) needs a hearing aid and her insurance company is refusing to pay. I told her to appeal it because they are denying it based on the fact that (in her words) "they don't pay for hearing aids because pretty much everyone over the age of 65 has a hearing deficit and could use a hearing aid." I told her that they should appeal based on the fact that her daughter is 5 and has a birth defect. I also told her that I would look for funding resources, so I'm turning to you all, my trusted special needs Mommies. Anybody know kids with hearing aids? And/or how to find funding? I am gonna research on my own, but I was hoping someone could help me and/or point me in the right direction. Thanks for your help in advance :) Kathy+:) Mom to Bethany (8.5-BCH, multiple delays,SID, Arachnoid cyst, mitochondrial cytopathy) and (5-minor delays, bowel issues)Please contact mito-owner with any problems or questions.

There are a few excellent possibilities to get assistance with

hearing aid coverage but yes - this woman is correct - there are

very few insurances carriers in the US that cover the cost of

hearing aids.

Please offer your friend the following and let her go from there.

http://www.sotheworldmayhear.org/forms/hearnow.php

http://www.sertoma.org/

http://www.lions.org/

Tell her I said good luck and to please let me know how this turns

out.

Thanks,

Alice

A friend of mine had a similar argument with her insurance over required contact lenses for her infant grandson with congenital cataracts. She finally won because this is a birth defect and somewhere in the insurance fine print there should be a clause covering necessary DME for cogenital defects (as opposed to just DME). Have your friend APPEAL the decision as high as she needs to go. She also needs to get a copy of the FULL insurance contract rather than the brief synopsis most employers hand out. Likely she can find the appropriate clause herself once she gets the document and she can cite it in her appeals.
