Joe gets botox every 3 months for the spasticity in his legs and hips

from his CP issues.

It has been a great addition to his therapy. We have also done the

serial casting once

and that has had incredible results. We consulted Dr. Cohen before

doing the botox

and he was ok with it. He also wears DAFO braces on his legs.

Hope this helps.

We have been using botox injections for about two years. We use it

to loosen the muscles in Wyatt's hips and upper thighs. The muscles

are so tight that they are starting to pull Wyatt's hip out of

socket. When they do the botox they typically sedate your child.

They can also put a topical treatment on the spot they are going to

inject first. We have never bothered to do that. It takes about an

hour for that to work. The sedation takes about 10 minutes to kick

in and the injeciton of botox takes about 5 minutes. I have friends

who do not sedate, but just use the topical treatment instead. I

guess you can do it either way. I do let the doc know that because

of the mito Wyatt is MH so they have oxgyen available when they

sedate him. For the sedation they basically use a form of ativan,

which is what we use when his seizures won't stop. If you have any

questions, e-mail. Good Luck.

Hi laura, just wanted to put in my 2 cents worth about the botox :). I have fybromyalgia and have done a little bit of reading about the use of botox for people with chronic pain(fibro, migraines, etc) Just wanted to let you know that it was an option I was going to try, but thankfully i lucked out and my body is responding well to topomax(aniticonvulsant). Just make sure that, if you decide to try the botox for , that the dr giving the injections is VERY experienced. From what i've read there have been alot of deaths from overdoses of botox. goodluck with you decision!
