Guest guest
This is something has begun having alot of problems with. It began in the summer and now everytime has a crisis, which is approximately every 3-5 weeks, he requires a foley catheter to be placed for the duration of the crisis. His bowels cease working also for a period of 2 -3 weeks and we usually take his foley out after his bowels begin to work. Then usually the worst of the crisis is past and we can take the foley out, cross our fingers and hope he pee's. For the most part he does. We have been told that the vomtiing, bladder retention, bowel issues, pupil dilation, difficulties with O2 sats, heart rhythm irregularities are all due to autonomic dysfunction which is getting worse. (or appears to be). We would be unable to do catheterizations several times a day as he requires sedation to put the catheter in. Just before christmas we had a VAD put in so at least we don't have to find IV sites anymore. The very difficult thing is that is developing a particular bladder infection that requires IV antibiotics. It is happening basically everytime we have to catheterize him.
