Guest guest
, Chelsea had her tonsils and adenoids removed at the end of Aug. They were noted to be mildly enlarged by an ENT, a +2 on a scale of 0 to 5. After getting a nasty throat infection from mono earlier in the summer, they became more elarged and significantly increased her apnea during the nite and even waking hours. She would typically snore at nite, some being worse than others, depending on her secretions. She has shown both central and obstructive sleep apnea on sleep studies, that last one only showing obstructive. Her apnea and snoring have SIGNIFICANTLY improved since having the T & A. She harldy ever snores while sleeping, mostly when she is ill or has had Diastat. Her breathing has also improved as well as the pooling of secretions in her throat. She used to be chronically wet sounding in the throat, but now that is hardly ever and usually an indication she is getting sick. She will be having another sleep study in March, I will post the results when I get them. FYI, Chelsea had been evaluated for a T & A almost 4 yrs ago, but all her drs felt the surgery to risky because of her severe dysphagia. It was believed the post surgery swelling would be too stressful and she would end up on a trach. This was still a big concern when it was done and Chelsea ended up staying in the hospital for about 6 days. While she did have quite a bit of difficulty with her secretions the fist few days, she healed very quickly and did much better than expected.
