Guest guest
Bievenido Beto, Yo me llamo Cristobal Roche. Guest guest
Beto, Dr Koen De Smet regularly travels to Italy to perform BHR surgery. I suggest you email him at his clinic - koen.desmet@... or Info@... and see if you can see him. He performed my surgery almost 2 years ago and I have returned to my very active life. If you wait too long you run the risk of not being a candidate for the resurfacing procedure. Best of luck, Rock climbin' Jude LBHR De Smet 09/11/02 Hello First of all, sorry by my bad english. Guest guest
Hi > The " classical " doctors says: this is a experimental device (BHR), this device produces debris: metal ions, etc. and, probably, needs the same revision like THR with metal-poly. Lots of doctors say things like that. The majority opinion on this board is that the doctors don't have a 20-year-history of the BHR to back them up, so they are being very conservative. It's important to note that if you do need a THR in the future, it will be a first THR, not a revision (the latter has a shorter lifespan), and probably the acetabular component will not need replacing. Most patients who have had a resurfacing instead of a THR are very happy with their choice, their quicker recovery time and reduced physical restrictions. If nothing else, it buys time for a younger person like yourself. Personally, the lack of pain and improved movement, compared to the previous four years before my surgery, makes me very glad to be one of the recipients of this " experimental " device. Of course, for a few weeks after the surgery, one is weak and has muscle pains, but after the first two months it is like getting one's normal life back. The positive attitude (not to mention increased ability to exercise) that results from this reprieve is definitely good for one's health, and hopefully would negate any problems that might result from a slight increase in metal ions. So I urge you not to be afraid. Best wishes, n rBHR Oct.2003 McMinn

Guest guest
Hi Beto Once again I shall agree with on both counts – firstly, that resurfacing is safe and as replied to you in Spanish (as far as I could understand Spanish) what have you got to loose? If it is not a 100% success, you still have the THR option available to you (that was the argument I used with my OS when I asked him to refer me to a colleague who was performing resurfacing instead of going ahead with his recommendation for a THR at my tender age of 53 at the time). And, secondly, I agree with Rog that Barcelona is one of the most beautiful cities in the world – it certainly beats both London (in which I live), and Paris (in which I stayed for a period of time). And I don’t mean just La Ramblas (I hope I spelt it correctly) and the beautiful women one can see there, but many parts of this beautiful city with the exotic architecture of Gaudi and the fantastic bars and restaurants. By the way, there was a chap, he may have been a Brit, who had his resurfacing done in Belgium (with deSmet, I believe) and who lived in Barcelona and created a web site about his resurfacing where he outlined his experiences in a diary form – see if someone remembers his name or web site as it had his home phone number as well. Guest guest
Dear Dawn, Hello, and again, welcome to the group. I know how it feels to be considered "mental" about one's health, and to have doctors and family members, alike, tell you it's "all in your head". That is a common theme with Lupus and other autoimmune patients. If they don't know the answers, they tend to deny the existence of the problem...especially if it frightens them. If you go to the main Lupies site, click on LINKS, then scroll down the articles listed, you will find printable pages devoted to these issues. There is even one that explains in plain English what is happening to your body, and it is directed at your family and friends for their education. What they choose to believe is, of course, up to them, but if we have anything to say about it, it won't be due to ignorance of the issues. LOL We periodically post the most up to the minute articles on testing, reading results, explaining health issues to family and friends, medical trials, pharmaceuticals, strategies for coping, and many more. Look for these articles on the main board, or if you are receiving individual emails, in your mailbox. You can save them to read later, or print them for your personal medical reference library. Very handy. I think you will probably find your best bet to find medical help would be a teaching hospital in your area. In many states, that is the only option for Lupus patients, since it is still not well understood. You can also contact the Lupus Foundation of America for information on specialists in your area. www.lupus.org is the web address. Keep writing to the group, share your concerns, fears, laughs, tears. We all need this outlet in order to cope with this disease. Because each patient manifests Lupus in a unique way, and responds to each treatment differently, it is very difficult to diagnose and treat. It is largely a matter of trial and error in terms of finding the right mix of physicians, drugs, and daily coping strategies. I know, I've lived with this disease since I was ten, went undiagnosed until I was thirty, and am now fifty-five and have developed congestive heart failure as another aspect of it. I know this is getting long, but you might want to know a little about me: I live in No. California, about 50 miles from San Francisco. I am the adoptive mother of four, grandmother of two, and retired on full disability pension from my job in education (25 years). I had to retire due to Rheumatoid Arthritis and Lupus, Myofibrositis, Anemia, Sjogren's Syndrome, chronic Lyme Disease (tick bites that went undiagosed for six years), non-insulin dependent Diabetes, and now an Ulcer, and the topper: CHF. I have two boys still at home, ages 12 and 16. So, I have a major challenge just in getting them up and independent. All of my children are special needs adoptions due to their fragile status as infants from drug exposure, early birth, or other physical and developmental problems, so they are extra challenging. I was, until my retirement, working full time, and am a single parent. Yup, I am insane and an overachiever. LOL So, tell us some more about YOU, and keep us posted on how you do in finding a good Rheumatologist. Hugs, MM aka: Mike, one of the Owner/Moderators

I too have a new grandson that is 3 weeksold tomorrow. What a blessing. I am down here with my daughter for the last 3 weeks, flew in 7 hours before she started labor. She was not due until Christmas day, so I am VERY thankful that she listened to me and did not go into labor before I got here! ha I was very worried that her muscles would not hold out through pushing, but she did very well for a person with a myopathy. Guest guest
Hi and happy New Year to all of you too, How wonderful to welcome a new one into your life at this time of year, congratulations! I hope and pray you all are blessed abundantly this new year and have improved health. smiles to you all, - william hawthorne whhawt@...> wrote: > > Hello, > I hope everyone has had a wonderful New Year's Day and that 2005 will > be the best year yet for each of you. > Our holiday has been bright when we held, rocked and walked our 3 week > old grandson and played with our 3 yr. old grandson. Guest guest
hello terri, well today was the first day back to work and what hell it was, i felt like every nerve was on fire in my lower back, knees, elbows, head, and from my jaw to my ears (which by the way wont stop ringing) it was truly the worst and longest day of my life (by the way i am a carpenter) and i love what i do but my hands are getting to the point that the dont like to do what i tell them to do. I have lost reflexes in both arms and now they want to tell me that its from carpell tunnel.but guess what they gave me steroids and it helped(lol) ofcorse it did thats what the treat everything with., i am seeing a V.A. doctor in hampton (dr hitchings) but i think i would do well to find another doc, i called him today to tell him about the problems im having and he never retured my call. im just so tired of the whole thing( worring that if i cant work that ill lose everything) i got to get to sleep,GOT TO WORK TOMORROW), LOVE TO ALL. I have been going back and forth between the MS or NS diagnosis for some time, so I was wondering who your doctors are? If I ever get a diagnosis, I would like to have someone who has dealt with NS before. I see from your post that you are worried about working. What type of work do you do? Do you have a private disability policy through work? If you are worried this might happen talk to your HR benefits person. They can tell you about taking a short term disablity leave - mine was paid for three months. I ended up never going back but I did have a private long term disability that pays me 60% of my salary, so I am the lucky to still have an income. Well, take care and let me know if you have both MS and NS. I can give you some resources for MS; they treated me for 6 months and I did get involved in some groups. Terri G. Yahoo! Autos.
