Sensory problems after illness?

I've noticed that my son's sensory issues (he has sensory

integrative problems) get worse after an illness. His hearing,

vision, and touch seem to be hypersensitive. For example, he

will get scared when he hears a quiet sound like someone

moving around in another room or the furnace turning on

somewhere else in the house.

Has anyone else experienced this? Are sensory issues

common with mito disorders?

Thanks,

Stacey

Stacey;

In the adult Mito population, there seem to be a number of folk with

hypersensitivity ... so I would assume that hypersensitivity of the kind

you describe (and more) is Mito related and likely related to autonnomic

dysfunction.

I have the hypersensitivity all the time, but it is surely worse during

and after illness and during the time of day when energy store has been

used up ... in other words, for me there is a direct relationship

between low energy and hypersensitivity.

I can tell you that I prefer to do my email when the room is dark so I

can better focus on the task at hand ... namely thinking with reason ...

because any movement or colour distracts me!

I was at a doctor's appointment a couple of weeks ago and there had been

a fire in a building several blocks away a few weeks prior to that. I

was telling the doctor about the hypersensitivity and that there was a

smell like wet bonfire in the room and I was finding it very hard to

keep to the task on hand. Her eyebrows shot up .... she didn't smell it

and hadn't for some time ... then she told me about the fire in the

area. I think, finally, she understood hypersensitivity!!!!!

Shopping, crowds, sounds, smells and, yes, mixing of flavours .... are

VERY disconcerting. I find it hard to stay on task when I have

conflicting or multiple sensory input! I am also finding that it is

increasing as my involvement with Mito increases (I mean how much Mito

is invading my body!)

Hope this helps!
