Guest guest
Hello It has been A LONG TIME since I have posted. I Basically spent the month of OCT in the hospital. I have been home now for a week. I am NPO and on TPN. Any help on how long I should rest my panc before introducing food will be helpful. Cecilia Cecilia soce@... Being on TPN for me was terrible. I developed blood infections which put me in the hospital for 23 days and on very strong meds. The worse thing for me being on TPN was the effect it was having on my sick liver. I have chronic hepatitis B and TPN is hard on a sick liver. I could barely sit up most of the time. I felt terrible. How long have you been on TPN? I would think that you would need it for weight gain and to build up your body. When you are not having an attack are you able to eat at all? Have you talked with your doctor about how long your pancreas needs to rest while being on TPN? Being on TPN really didn't help my pancreas at all. My pancreas wouldn't let me eat anything. I would fry one egg white in pam spray in the morning and then all day I would have to set a timer for every 45 minutes. Every 45 min. the timer would ring and then I would try to eat one-half of a teaspoon of egg white. By bedtime I would still have almost the whole egg white left. My pancreas just wouldn't let me eat no matter how long I let it rest on TPN or any other type of tube feeding. I hope that the TPN works well for you and gives your pancreas a good rest. Guest guest
I have CP and Sphincter of Oddi Dysfunction and they are still trying to find out why anytime I eat anything (even a clear liquid diet) I throw it up and my counts go sky high. They want me to have the shincteroplasty as my next step. I have only been fighting this for about a year and a half. Jenise

Dear Kurt, I started TPN with a PICC line the middle of October and just stopped it and had my PICC line removed the middle of January - three months. I did FINE!!! No infections. I know some people get infections, but my home health care nurse said that there is no reason to get an infection if one is careful and demands the nurses also be careful with sterile materials and handwashing.
