What state do you live in and what private insurance do you have? Depending on which state your private insurance's home office is in they may or may not cover CoQ10. Some state like New Jersey have passed legislation that requires all insurance companies in their state to cover medical food (which by FDA Title 2 Volume 21 Section 105 paragraph 3) says that over the counter vitamins can be considered a nutritional supplement i.e. medical food for individuals with an inborn error of metabolism. This along with state legislation is very helpful. Most insurance companies and their employees are unaware of the laws and sadly it is left up to us to educate them.

I am in the process of creating a list of state's with this type of legislation. If anyone knows that their state does have legislation for inborn errors of metabolism please e-mail me so I can complete my work. I would also like to make a list of companies that ARE paying for CoQ10.

Re: CoQ10 coverage

I'm in a horrible battle with our private insurance and WI medicaid trying to get them to pay for lea's CoQ10. I sent a letter to our insurance over a month ago, and haven't heard anything back. I've also been pursing medicaid but nobody seems to know how to get this covered!!!!!!!!!!! i'm extremely frusterated by the whole situation- and the dr keeps increasing the Q10, so it's getting more and more expensive.le> Just recieved an email from 's doc this morning that said they > had fought the good fight and lost on the medicaid coverage for LiQ10 > syrup. le,

We are currently in the process of trying to get the Beckett Waiver in Wisconsin. I will let you know if I run into a problem if and when we get approved.

Back in Iowa, I ordered CoQ10 from the pharmacy that compounded our cocktail. It had an NDC number and therefore, was covered by medicaid in Iowa. I don't know if you are using a pharmacy to compound the cocktail but, that may be an option for you. I did some checking and there is a compounding pharmacy in Appleton. I don't know where in Wisc. you live but, they do mail prescriptions also. Let me know if you want the name and number. I was told by the Beckett representative that Wisc. Medicaid will pay for any supplement as long as it is prescribed by a physician.

le,

I did get the vitamin cocktail including CoQ10 covered for Lucas about 3 years ago. We stopped using the cocktail when he went to the delayed gastric emptying and J-tube feedings. We had to go through the HealthCheck program rather than the WI Medicaid program even though they are the same. At the time we had Drug Emporium pharmacy doing the paperwork. (Of course they are no longer in business.) I do know at least one other family who was successful with it though using a different pharmacy. I would suggest calling the Children With Special Health Care Needs at Children's Hospital of Wisconsin. The phone number is 1- or . Ask them for a phone number for the Healthcheck program. Feel free to contact me off list for further info..

I've been talking to the pharmacist at Skywalk Pharmacy at Children's. He is working with ,Medicaid to get it covered and even better - to get a compounded (liquid) one covered. He is pretty close to getting it approved. I might try calling him - not sure what his direct line is but if you call and ask for Skywalk Pharmacy they can connect you.Anne Re: Re: CoQ10 coveragele, I did get the vitamin cocktail including CoQ10 covered for Lucas about 3 years ago.
