Guest guest
Hi I understand that hyperactivity is to be expected on starting enzymes, but how long, on average, does it last? Is loudness and a small amount of aggression also common? Thanks Margaret
Guest guest
Margaret, I think it's possible to see all that unpleasant stuff. Most report no problems after two or three weeks, although it is possible. Are you giving anything containing B vitamins? Some parents have reported that once on enzymes, they have to reduce B vitamins because of better absorption, especially P5P. It is also possible your child cannot tolerate the enzymes. You can try reducing the dose to see if going slower helps, or if you feel it is some withdrawal effect, you can just keep at the full dose and ride it out. Be sure to let us know how it goes. > Hi > > I understand that hyperactivity is to be expected on starting enzymes, but how > long, on average, does it last? Yesterday, I reduced the Pep and ZP to one half capsule of each and she did much better. Just a little bit of hyperactivity. No screaming, no aggression. Wonderful compliance. I'm giving it with a non-gfcf meal or snack, since both DH and I want to get her eating an unrestricted diet. Next week I'll give just a little more - maybe about 2/3 capsule. I hope by Halloween I can start slowly adding back the NoFenol. I want to be giving the other two with every meal and snack before I do that, though. Depends on the enzyme and the diet. Was it No-Fenol? You might want to consider reducing the dose. With No-Fenol, my kids were awake, not hyper but awake, for about 3 weeks before they adjusted. Guest guest
It can take a little longer to get past the hyperactivity some experience at first from possible opioid withdrawal effect. Since you are seeing some positive effect, you may want to stay at the present dose until you get past the adjustment phase. But I don't advocate being miserable, so if the hyper is just too much to handle, you can certainly cut back the dose to see if that helps, then gradually build back up to a full dose. > My son has been on ZymePrime and Peptizyde for about 2.5 weeks...and doing OK....but he is so hyper. Increasingly hyper!...Doing ok, and increasing language...but is the hyperactivity due to the enzymes possibly?? Does this pass? > Deanne > >

There are several reasons that someone may be somewhat hyper when starting enzymes. Here are some explanations: http://www.enzymestuff.com/discussionadjustments.htm You can also drop the dose a little so it is more tolerable. Or try epsom salts: www.enzymestuff.com/epsomsalts.htm The real key in your message, is that you are seeing positive improvements along with the hyperness. When you see positives along with any negatives, this almost always is a " healing adjustment " and the negatives go away. . > >

Increasingly hyper!...Doing ok, and increasing language...but is the hyperactivity due to the enzymes possibly?? Does this pass? If these are the ZP/Pep that contain papain/bromelain, then that can cause hyper. Adding No-Fenol helps many kids but not all. If your child is phenol intolerant, these two enzymes might be addressing everything except the phenols, which would cause hyper. Adding No-Fenol can help with that also.
