Plain and simple..

What's NOT normal for healthy kids is really NOT normal for my kids either but just acceptable or expected. However, we shouldn't panic until things get bad. I know this. In their defense, I think they don't tell us that things are abnormal due to the fact that we or at leat "I" might become paranoid and worry more than I should BEFORE it becomes a problem.

Krystena, I hear ya!! I am going thru a similar situation. Chelsea's local neuro recently left his practice, so I took the opportunity to get her medical file. All along, we had been told Chelsea's labs were "essentially normal", but come to find out, that is quite untrue. Chelsea's labs have been quite abnormal, and indicated mitochodriopathy from her 1st ones done at 7mos. We were just never given any details because they were nondiagnostic in nature. Her neuro ruled out mito early on because she was too healthy and seemed to be getting better, but as she passed 2 and did not progress, he decided it must be mito and decided to pursue futher testing at that point (all this I found out from letters to her ped). I think we were not given details because he felt we would not understand or get overexcited about it. Now it just leaves me roaring mad.

NOONE told me that Carsen's urine was positive for bacteria

I am curious about the significance of this lab result, this has shown up in Chelsea's labs as well. I assumed it was something benign in nature. I am still combing thru her results when I get a few spare minutes, and am finding it quite confusing.

Also, he is sick again with severe congestion. If he doesn't stay on antibiotics, he gets a bad chest rattle and you can hear his throat or whatever it is inside whistling when he breathes (with a stethoscope). He is gagging & vomiting on it. It also gives him diahrrea. Where does this come from?

Chelsea has pretty much always sounded wet in her throat, it echoes down into her lungs making it difficult to tell if she is truly congested in her lungs. This was noticed at afew months of age and we were told it was probably due to allergies. At 2 1/2 she was dx'd with dysphagia, which was causing the gurgle. Saliva and residual food was collecting around her epiglottis because she could not swallow well. We were also told she had a floppy soft palatte causing obstructive breathing issues. She is tube fed to avoid aspiration and she had her tonsils and adenoids out this past summer which has significantly improved her apnea. She is also sounding more clear on occassion and I now know when she sound horrible (almost liks she is drowning in secretions), that she is coming down with an ear infection.

HTH! Hope Carsen is feeling better soon!

e, Chelsea's mom(nonspecific mito)
