Another thought is we've always warned them (people to take Leah's blood)

that she is a hard stick; meaning they will have difficulty getting a vein

right away or even after three tries. We learned the hard way and now say

that in the beginning so they can get a specialist in blood draws for Leah.

Some times we need to wait a little longer; but it is worth the wait. Even

for regular blood draws this is what we say. Plus if they can't get some one

in and they say oh I'm pretty good at this; we give them a warning; three

tries and then if they haven't gotten any thing they get some one in. So

every thing is heads up. But I agree with Ann as to why the ped sent you to

the ER. I know our ped will send Leah down to the hospital lab because they

get a better draw and they are better at drawing blood than the regular lab

in his office. That would be the only thing I could think of. But I hate to

say this has been a learning experience but next time you will then ask after

a few minutes if the blood draws have been sent and if they look at you

funny; just smile and say you had a bad experience last time when the tubes

weren't sent after a period of time and the blood was no good. Another

thought would be if they couldn't get you food in a timely matter (of course

it doesn't seem like you would want to do this after your experience of

trust) say could you watch my son while I go and get food? Were they quite

busy in the ER that day? Shouldn't be an excuse but just curious. I hope

your next experience will be better. We all learn from each of our visits.

I too had to laugh at the thought of every one carrying a urine bag with

them. That is some thing I must say we haven't carried an extra with us.

But I know we have one at home. May be we should carry extra motrin with us,

too. Better to be prepared I guess. Than can we charge the hospital back

for providing medical services that they didn't have to?
