Guest guest
A HISS panel includes all of the immune globulins (IgM, IgA, IgE and IgG) as well as all of the subclasses of IgG and finally the levels of antibodies to things like the DTP and pneumococcus. Typically if someone shows low antibody titers on the HISS panel the MD has the child/adult re-vaccinated and then redraws the levels in a month or so to see if this time the person made antibodies. Depending on the results of IgG levels (both the total and the subclasses) IIVIG infusions may be recommended. If the child has low levels but is not chronically sick it would be acceptable to take a wait and see approach. IVIG is a blood product and it has its own risks so it will not be /or at least should not be given unless certain criteria are met. My boys have no antibody titers, and low IgG levels in all subclasses...they get infusions of IVIG every 3-4 weeks. We also tested their B cell number and function which was profoundly abnormal and that helped us to make the decision about IVIG infusions. Thanks, I guess it would help if I had my ears cleaned out. I should have asked what the panel consisted of but it was at the end of a very long day. We are going to give pneumovax and then recheck her.

Anne, is this different testing from testing for immunodeficiency? This subject line has cought my attention, particulary pertaining to the tests that show how the cells are functioning. Chelsea has been tested for immunodeficiencies and has none, but she picks up everything so easily, I still wonder if something else is going on other that her not having enough energy to fight stuff off. Thanks! e, Chelsea's mom(nonspecific mito)
