Hi,

We are seeing Shoffner in 2 weeks. Don't worry about cost of transportation or cost of staying there while you're there. You can get an Angel flight or another charity transport. Also, we are staying at the Mc House (which I think is like 10 dollars a night if you can pay it).

As far as getting in, you shouldn't have to wait once the financial stuff is figured out. Maybe a couple of weeks or so. Results they tell me take 8-12 weeks. Paying for the procedures is a different matter, I think. But, you can probably make a case to your insurance and (Shoffner's office will be helpful with this) that they are one of the few places in the country to do the fresh muscle tests. Hicks is the administrative assistant and she's SO nice. The phone number there is . They are in the process of moving their lab's location so you might not get to talk with them until after the 9th of January but then they are very good about helping you through the process.

If you have more questions for me, put my name on the subject list (anne R) and I will make sure to read it.

Good Luck.

Anne R

Theproblem is there is no way we can afford to pay much, and getting therewould be extremely difficult. Do I tell them this? I know this isimportant, but I don't know how to make it work? Our insurance is a statesubsidized plan that won't cover out of state except for a transplants.Does anyone know with it being a ish Rite hospital, does it help tohave family that are Masons?I've seen that it takes awhile to get results back, but how long does ittake to get in? Is he as backed up as everyone else seems to be?

Hi there

there are lots of ways to get there for little or nothing and then the McD house is an option that Shoffners office can set up for you. you only have to stay three nights. We also had state insurance and they refused to pay for this initially but then when I toook him to see Dr Korson they agreed to pay half...so its possible if the doc will help you build the case that there are only two testing centeres in the country I think you could get it...just might take some work. Another option if you hae the resources is to have a fund raiser. We did this...and raised $13,000 which covered his fees and our food for the trip and to pay babysitters for our other two while we were gone.

We did NOT do the DNA sequencing which is about another $4000 but I was very determined to take him to the best and we did. Once you have the funds, you can be seen within a week or two.

by the way...the nuerosurgeon and the hospital will take your insurance plan...its just him that can't...but the fees are still $11-16K
