Guest guest
What is side sitting? When you are sitting on the floor, what is the best way to sit? Guest guest
Side sitting is sitting with both legs under you to one side, it bends your spine to the opposite side and with a twist and increases scoliosis which with any child with a neuro problem can turn deadly very quickly. My daughter had 98 and 72 degree double curve with a rotation, stopped breathing altogether three times in the 6 months before her 10th birthday and finally had emergent scoli surgery (3 rods full length neck to pelvis) at age ten. Best correction is at a permanent 25 and 15 degrees and the pelvic twist is permanent. Best way to sit is IN A CHAIR. My daughters teachers were instructed never to allow her to sit on the floor for any reason. Worked well until 5th grade. I blame her 5th grade teacher for not following my instructions AND for removing the physician prescribed thoracic stabilizers from her wheelchair (without asking or telling me!) for her ever getting to that point. At the start of that school year her curve was barely 40 degrees (non-surgical) and she just caved in in a matter of months. kj mom to De-Arbra age
