Guest guest
Darla, I don't know if this will help or not but we use diapers from www.firstquality.com . Lucas used to soak the bed also. He slept on his side and the new diapers have no absorbancy on the sides. We also put an extra absorbant Poise pad also. Is she diabetic? The steroids can cause high blood sugar levels and one of the symptoms is excessive urination. Just a thought. Loriann

Guest guest
Darla, Have you checked her blood sugar? Steroids will make ones blood sugar run high. Caden always does this when on them, even at a low dose. His blood sugar will still be at 190 2 hrs after eating while taking them. Anything over 180 will cause you to want to urinate more. It's a natural (good) thing that is your body's way of getting rid of the excess sugar.. NOT that-that is what is going on with Asenath though. It could be something else totally. Your bladder, as you know, is controlled by your brain when it all comes down... I was on detrol for OVER active bladder in 2000 when I had my stroke-like episode. It was all neurological. I really hope you get some answers but just wanted to see if you had checked her blood sugar at all. It wouldn't hurt to see high high she is going. Krystena s mom of 2 with GAII Caden 5yrs, Carsen 5mths Re: Bladder issue I am not sure if I have shared this problem with you or not, so I will again and ask for opinions. Asenath used to have problems with not being able to go potty and would only produce 3-8 oz. of urine per 24 hours (we thought it was due to nerve damage or something from the "big" stroke) and then suddenly it was fixed to only become the oposite problem. This year after she started Carnitine her urine output increased. Then after the g-tube was placed and she was given 3 cans of pediasure each night, her output really increased. Now, since her starting steroids, she is peeing out of control at night and very modestly during the daytime. Her nurse that comes weekly suggested that maybe she doesn't have the capacity to release easily and so the urine is built up during the day and then when she sleeps it floods out. I am wondering if I should push for medical advice on this issue or not worry. ALSO, I am desperate for ideas to try for diapering at night. We have tried larger daipers, overnight diapers, even used up to size 5 diapers with two overnight maxi pads inside it to no avail. She still floods the diaper and clothes and totally soaks her hospital pads we use under her. What else can I try? Is there anything that can help and is this really that good for her to pee this much? Darla: mommy to AsenathPlease contact mito-owner with any problems or questions. Guest guest
We have been checking her blood sugars per doctor's orders at least once a week. We take it approximately 4 hours after her night feeding is over and AFTER she pees all over herself and her bedding as described previously. It has been running about 180. It is a possibility for why she pees so much, but wouldn't she have excessive amounts all the time if it was related to blood sugar? She has 3 cans of pediasure through the night increasing how much she gets so I understand there should be more output then but she has been drinking lots during the day and eating more too so I would think she would pee more all the time. This is why I am wondering if she may have a release problem as the nurse suggested because she pees so little during the day and TONS at in the early morning while asleep. Guest guest
Darla, I am sure this won't be much help but what I have found to be helpful is layering the bedding. That way when there is a really bad mess, I dont have to strip down the whole bed at 2 am. I have layers of waterproof pads ( crib size in a double bed) and blankets. I layer about three times. I have given up on finding something absorbant enough to hold it all since Miranda is on IV from 8 at night till the next morning. -- Re: Bladder issue I am not sure if I have shared this problem with you or not, so I will again and ask for opinions.
