Guest guest
When I lived in Arkansas, we used to have the "Bradley County Pink Tomato Festival". I lived in Warren, Arkansas and it was in Bradley County. We had a parade every year, tobacco spitting contests, greased pig catching, etc. Bill and Hillary used to ride in a convertible and were the stars of our parade. (If you have ever watched Doc Hollywood you get the drift). I think that I would be right at home at the Grit Festival since I am a G.R.I.T. myself. Thanks. Terri G. Guest guest
Now that is good to know. I had some yellow harmony grits recently and they were good! Although I did not roll around in them, but I did use my fried Rocky Mountain Oysters to help scoop them up off the plate. Ummm! Ummm! What a wild taste indeed! Guest guest
Yes Oyster Man....especially the Hog calling. I also worked in the tomato (there they were called 'maters) sheds in the summer to make money. We all did. One year my sister and I worked together at the associated shed together and she came right up to me with a cull tomoto and shoved it in my face and down my shirt. It was on. It turned into a huge tomato fight. We had to stay after work and clean up the area. It was a blast. Couldn't eat tomatos though for a long time. Guest guest
Lol...you guys are making my day. My son, who is stationed in Georgia in the Marines, said they recently had a Sorguhm(sp???) Festival down there. I've heard of it but don't really know what it is. Hey, maybe they put it on grits! .....lol...lol. still smiling.... S.Rose wrote: You will not believe this! I read this in the AARP magazine. I am not making this up. St. , South Carolina, consumes more grits per capita than any other city in the world (who gathers this data?), and every year the town hosts, are you ready? * *The World Grits Festival * * It's a 3-day event featuring, among other things, a "Roll in the Grits" game. It takes place 4/7-9, so y'all better get your caravan organized. For more info, contact: www.worldgritsfestival.com. It's the chance of a lifetime. Although I guess there's always next year. Elodia, I tried to make the festival name (above) more of a grits color, but it was too pale to show up on the page. Please forgive me. ***Newbies, don't leave because you think you are on the wrong list. This is the right place. Trust me. Guest guest
OOOOOOOOOO I am so jealous! I wished I had lived in the country when I was a kid. I did plant a little garden in our backyard and pretend. I guess it's a little late in life to become a farmer now. Guest guest
I loved the country life. When I need it now, I visit my Mom who live 2 hours away. She has cows for neighbors. Guest guest
Ron, as a matter of fact, a few years ago I participated in the cricket spitting contest at the Indiana State Fair. My personal best was about 9', I think. My granddaughter, , who was 8 or 9 then, spit one over 13'. We have certificates. Someone told me that they have discontinued the cricket spitting contest; I can't imagine why. BTW, the crickets were dead; you don't think I'd put a live cricket in my mouth? Guest guest
Rose, If you click on one of the graphics it will take you to Smiley Central. They have some of the cutest stuff. I downloaded it from an email my sister sent to me. We have both been reading the enstein series from Dean Koontz and she had sent me a walking enstein. Once you download, it will be on your toolbar. Guest guest
Across the river in Cincinnati they have the Flying Pig Marathon complete with costumed people. I never ran in it but before I got sick I volunteered at the water stop handing cups to runners & getting soaked when they knocked the cups out of my hand. My favorite part was the first bunch out. They were all in those fancy racing wheelchairs. Didn't know then that was the direction I was heading! I don't need one right now but who knows what the future brings? grannylunatic@... __________________________________________________
