Before we locate any camps, where would she like her son to go to camp?

Far from home, or a little bit and if a little bit where does he live?

Hi,

I'm trying to find a summer camp for a friend's 9 yr old son who has

Spina Bifida. She is really wanting a camp that he could be left at for

the week, so that he could have a "real" camp experience. I didn't know

if the MDA camp overlapped any with other Dx's or not. If anyone knows

of any good camps please write me off list.

Thank you,

They live in western KY. She is willing to go some distance and then just stay in the same town while he is at camp. All she found so far is a camp in Texas. She said that sounded kinda far but would be alright if she couldn't find anything else. Thanks for your help.

Here in Fort Wayne, IN there is a wonderful program that they run. It

is a camp with integrated sessions so there are disabled

and able bodied people during all the camp sessions. There is

therapeutic horseback riding, swimming, boating, archery.

The director and I have been working together the last several years so

if they are interested let me know and I can give you her name and

direct contact information.

My children have done the therapeutic riding there for years. The

center is designed for those with special needs.

Hope this helps.

I'll check with our Easter Seals organization here in Appleton, WI; but

there is a camp that is operated by the Lions group. They have a

nurse on staff and accessible housing and I believe it is an overnight

camp. But will double check and let you know. Probably won't

find out until Monday.
