Guest guest
Hello Ralph and welcome to the group. My husband was in the AF during the gulf war but was stationed in Korea at the time. Sorry to hear that this is where you got it from. You'd think you'd be safe in the military Did you get out on medical disability? I know what you mean about not remembering a day without pain. I was diagnosed last month and have had pain since January and it won't quit. I've had CFS for years also. That poem that you sent just hits it right on the head doesn't it? Pretty sad. I'm sending it to my husband's email. Welcome again and know that you are in a very supportive group here. Everyone is just wonderful!! Guest guest
Welcome, Ralph to our group. I think that this is a very good group. We are loving, caring and very supportive. If you have any questions, just bring them on out. I am sure that someone on this list will have an answer. As for venting, feel free to do that too. We all have and will, more than likely, do so again. Take care, Irene Books may well be the only true magic Alice Hoffman

Someone, anyone, let me know what > horrible mistake I'm making. , you aren't making any " mistakes " , it's just that we all go through good times and bad around here. I've been struggling for almost two weeks now with other health problems. Irene has tinnitus very badly and she just doesn't want others to suffer like she does. It's hard to sometimes read the body language that isn't in emails, but is in real life. People say things that to them seem like they are reaching out, but it may not seem like that to the receiver, especially if they're having a bad day, or the sender phrased things in a different manner. We do try to make people feel welcomed around here, it's just sometimes it comes out better than others. Darcy

Guest guest
Hello and Welcome to the group- and Congratulations on the baby I was not even 9 months post op when I found out I was having a baby- I am now 20 weeks and everything is going great- I have not gained any weight but eating like a pig Just make sure to eat healthy and keep up your vitamins. Michele -- Hello All Hi, This is my introductory post. My name is Adam. My wife's Name is e A little background on the both of us. We had Gastric Bypass Surgery on April 7th 2003. We are 9 1/2 months into our surgery. I was weighing 394 pre surgery. To date I am at 280...I am at a plateau. e was at 380...she is now at 255. We have been married 2 years and one day...Our 2 year Anniversery was yesterday! we have been activly trying to conceive since we got married with no luck. e never had a period in her life, EVER! she is 23. So we figured she didn't ovulate. we saw a specialist in September. I know we were suppose to wait at least 12 months after surgery to get pregnant but we figured it would take awhile anyway because we did not know if their was anything wrong with her. The first round was Clomid 50mg. for 5 days. We took ultrasounds and everything. She ovulated beautifuly. No Baby. Next cycle we upped it to 100 mg. 5 days w/ ultrasound...no good. The third month we tried 100mg. for 8 days because she was responding so well.. nothing....all this time I was telling her and the doctor to put her on progesterone because I put 2 and 2 together. Hello No period EVERRRR no progesterone....simple right....well the 4th month wich was last month we switched to the shots, Follistim...she didn't respond as well to that as the clomid but it was an " O " and I insisted she be on Progesterone...the doctor put her on prometrium Vaginally the day we did IUI. we got the call on the 22nd of december, which was the day befor her birthday...we were pregnant.. Man I so could be a doctor!!! so now we are 9 1/2 months post op. and 7 weeks and 5 days pregnant...We did an ultrasound 2 weeks ago and we saw the baby...that is a good thing...most of the time you cannot see it that early and we also saw the heartbeat...they said a very good heartbeat at that stage is 100hpm....our little one had a heartbeat of 122hpm!!!!!!!! My Boy is STRONG!!! I say it's a boy because that is what we want...but we don't care...so any input anyone can give us about getting pregnant this early we would love to take...since the pregnancy she has lost at 10 lbs...thanks for the ears everyone... Guest guest
Well, first a ? for you. Are the calcium chews she is taking calcium CITRATE or calcium CARBONATE? This is important because if they are carbonate, she is most likely not absorbing them. Because bypass patients lack the necessary stomach acid to break down carbonate, we can't absorb that type of calcium well. IF she is definitely taking cacium citrite, I wanna know the name of the chews!!! LOL. I'd love to get chews since the pills I'm taking now are MASSIVE!!! At 4 weeks along my OBGyn put me on an extra 1mg folic acid (for healthy spinal cord development), 2 prenatals, 1600 mg of calcium citrate, and iron citrate (acids make it more easily absorbed). I am currently 13 months post RNY and 12 weeks pregnant and so far my levels have been awesome. If your wife is anemic she may want to speak with her doc about the prescription Trinsicon (generic Foltrin). I was severely anemic early post op and this combo vitamin of iron, vitamin c, intrinsic factor was a life saver. Good luck and many blessings!!! Guest guest
Its carbonate not citrate...the fertility specialist stated that they normally put anemic patients on a med called " slow fe " but they didn't know because of her having the surgery...we will call our surgeon tomorrow. Slow FE is not a good choice. Slow FE works great for regular people because it is an extended release product. The problem with bypass patients is that we don't have a " long time " in the pipe for it to be extendedly absorbed. As far as iron, you do not want enteric coated because our systems have not time to eat the coating off and absorb before it has passed. Also, ferrous sulfate is not a good choice for bypass patients. I have read that ferrous fumerate or one other type (slips my mind right this second) are the two best iron selections for people with malabsorption and also are less difficult on the digestive tract. P.S. This goes for ANY antibiotics or any type of drugs you take daily. If it ends in XR, ask for something else. Unfortunately, we usually end up having to educate our physicians on how our body works so it's very important that we know these things ourselves. Unfortunately they're not the " good chews " like Viactive, etc. But, I take Twin Labs Calcium Carbonate chewables. I can't stand the horse pills. They are like EXCEPTIONALLY TART Sweet Tarts just about 3 times the size. I know you can order them off the internet, but one of the health food stores near me carries them. Guest guest
FYI: I take calcium citrate capsules that I ordered from Vitalady.com. They are awesome. I have never had any problems swallowing or digesting them. They're about 15 bucks and you get 240 in a large bottle. Guest guest
What a bummer to have gone through so much and not know whether or not you are to ba approved. ly, I would be ticked, (and not just a little!), if, after having gone through all the hoops, they denied the request. The process in CA, or at least for me was that after your PCP writes a referral or request for Bariatric surgery, the Obesity Committee reviews the request, and considering your BMI/co-morbidities, either approves the surgery or denies. If approved, it is then that you typically would start the process of losing the 10%, and would begin to go to the meetings, although it certainly would not be a bad thing if you were to begin the process of losing the 10% before the approval, as it is my belief that the Committee takes the weight that was written in your referral from the PCP as your beginning weight, (or at least that was what I was told by an Obesity Committee member when I worked with him at Kaiser Regional). And if you wanted to come to the meetings, go for it! It is required, however, that you see a nutritionist and get a Psych eval before the Committee will approve or deny, (or at least that was the process three years ago when I began this journey). I don't blame you in the least for being anxious!! I would be too. And frankly, knowing my personality, I would want to hear directly from the staff of the Obesity Committee as to when the verdict would be in; so yes, I would call. (But that's just me; I tend to be a little impatient.) Good Luck and God bless.
