Guest guest
Jill, I have a broviac central line that I recieve twice daily carnitine infusions through. I've done really well with it and would reccomend it if your child is going to be getting infusions/labs regularly. Ports are good if it's just going to be for more occasional use. They are completely under the skin and don't require as much maintence as a central line that is partially external. if you have any questions you can write me off list or on. lilqt4u1984@... Guest guest
Jill, 's has a mediport. This is a port about the circumferance of a quarter, insert under the skin. has trasfusion dependant anemia. This has been wonderful for her. The surgery is fairly quick and simple. Should be outpatient. Once Matt has the port, you numb it with cream and the stick doesn't hurt at all. If they are considering a broviac it is a little different. It is a tube that goes into the vein (I think) and then there is about 5 in. of line that sticks out of the body. It needs to be flushed every few days (you would be trained to do it) and have sterile dressing changes. had this when she was little. It was nice but I beleive there is an increased risk of infection with this as opposed to the mediport.PLus I was always afraid of it pulling out. They are wonderful if he is a hard stick and needs frequent blood tests done, then it would be great! Any specific questions please feel free to ask, Dawn
