Guest guest
Why can they not get the results? Usually a fresh muscle biopsy is the best way to diagnose the disorder. Sometimes, though, if they have a specific organ with major issues a biopsy of that organ can tell more than the muscle. My daughter was diagnosed primarily on a liver biopsy, but a muscle biopsy confirmed it. The liver and muscle were done at the same time. Best rule of thumb is that you really want a fresh biopsy. There are a lot of cases where there was a false negative as a result of a frozen biopsy.
Guest guest
Maybe you can request a different lab to do the study. You would probably have a hard time getting insurance to pay for another biopsy. They are like $20,000 a shot. Best of luck.

Guest guest
My daughter was diagnosed with just a DNA test she never had to have a muscle biopsy. Hope this helps. Valina, Maggies momZaksMom wrote: My son has been diagnosed with an unknown mitochondrial disease but the problem is that the doctors are unable to get results from his many muscle biopsy tests. Does anyone know if there is another way to test for mitochondrial disease, other than a muscle biopsy? Deb, Zak's mom Please contact mito-owner with any problems or questions. Guest guest
I do believe the biopsy was fresh. What happens is when they go to view the muscle under the microscope it shrinks down. They have done the test like 6 or 7 times and the same thing every time. Deb, Zak's mom
