He is going to be 8 next month and even though he has a wheelchair also it is our favorite for traveling, going to the fair or taking him to his brothers soccer games. Regular strollers don’t work because their feet are too long, so we went with a running stroller. We also felt like Leanna was not ready for a wheelchair. The jogging strollers havw a foot pad over the wheel and fit their long legs, and for now it does the job. We shopped around at all the sport shops and Toys R us and found the best one at Costco for less than $100. It was hard to find one that was light because most are heavy so that it is easier to fold quickly. You might be able to get insurance to pay for it (it's certainly cheaper than a wheelchair). I have no idea how it compares to the Convaid, or if they still make it, but we do see people in them when we go places. It's easy to fold and fairly light, so good for travelling. Good luck. Guest guest Posted February 16, 2004 Report Share Posted February 16, 2004 Hi Tamara: I know can walk at times, but if you are looking for easy walking over uneven surfaces, etc. for pushing we got a kidkart for our daughter. But if you go to a medical supply place they will be able to guide you in the direction you need to go and actually have several pieces of equipment for you to see and try in. At least our place does. Leah can't walk, but has good support, but we chose the kidkart because it has larger wheels to go on blacktop and even the grass fairly easy compared to a stroller, and it's back can recline, but what else I like about it is the height. It is a little higher than a wheelchair so if we would go to the zoo or such, she can see better and it goes right up to table height. It doesn't allow the arms to go under the table; but it includes a tray that we use when we go out and she can't be close to the table to eat. Also if you go to FlagHouse.com you will be able to see strollers there. I love our kidkart now and am so glad to have gotten it. At first I didn't want that " wheelchair " look, but my two boys can push Leah in it easily, too. Of course she is only may be 31 lbs. if that. Good luck. We love it and it was paid for by our insurance with a prescription. It's very easy to push............the only drawback is at times I feel it is too heavy for me to lift.
