I was told that a spinal block is safe to have, and you can nurse immediately following the surgery. If I were you I would be extremely careful, given Zipporahs condition. Anesthetic is very tricky with mito, and you and her will be getting everything. Just being on the safe side, I pumped and threw away the first couple of hours of milk. I had plenty of frozen stored because I was so worried. I have also heard of gall bladder surgery being done with a local anesthetic, safer for you both. One tip to help you eat until the surgery. When mine acts up, I eat nothing but plain white rice. It fills you up, and it does not bother me to eat it. It kinda stinks because it is so bland. Also I have been on this for over three weeks at a time, so I completely understand why you want this done. Best of luck.

I am sorry to say I don't really know what type of anesthesia to request. I have had two other procedures in the past due to kidney stones and one was much harder to come out of than the other. (Both were during pregnancy and then nursing times and I nursed within 4 hours afterwards.) I know I will not use an inhaled type due to reactions I have seen in my daughter and will go with an IV form. If any of you have a suggestion as to which one, let me know. I also am wondering about the function of the pancreas. Dr. Whiteman seemed so concerned about it I want to know how it is working as well as the gall bladder. I know the ultrasound looked ok but that doesn't show function. They had to do a special procedure to see the gall bladder's function. I really want to know I am solving the whole problem, not just part of it. The pain, fever/chills, nausea (all the time now) due to it being chronic are really a pain. If it came and went like it used to I may bypass the operation, but it is very apparent that I cannot eat or drink even bland things without tummy gurgling, rumbling, nausea, and etc. so I am going to go ahead and do it. Darla Fwd: Re: Kathy- Gall bladder dysfunction/darla I am not trying to be nosy, but I saw in your reply that you would still be nursing Porrah after your surgery. What kind of anesthetic are you planning to have? I am just asking this, because I was told with a General anesthetic you cannot nurse for 48 hours after the procedure. I went through this when I had my last knee surgery, this was my fifth one. I was nursing Gracie then, and chose to have a spinal done so I could continue to nurse. They did give me Versed, which is not recommended if you have mito, to relax. But, I only took the minimal amount because I just hate feeling loopy. I was also unable to take any narcotics because they pass to the baby. Hope everything goes well. Maybe you can "stock up" with milk just in case.
