Guest guest
Add the steroids or neurontin or amitriptyline--and yeah, you'll gain weight. You need other meds-- this program isn't working for you, and it sounds like your disease is progressing. As far as the weight-- let the MD know that prescribes your amitrip. and get him to change it-- you need something else. Hi Tracie! Regarding the Neurontin and Amtripytilline causing weight gain ... I didn't realize they, too, caused this ... I guess this is why I keep gaining even though I eat very little. Which drugs could we try vs. these two drugs? I know that Topomax causes the opposite, but I don't want Anorexia either. Are there any other meds? Also, to all the women who still menstruate ... have your cycles not been normal? I was always "right on the exact day" normal ... I haven't had a monthly in about 5 or 6 months now. I'm only 43, so I don't think I've started menopause yet ?? (sure would be nice though and would explain the "extra" depression ... I hate to think of this level of depression being with me now forever due to the disease. I did learn that the disease is progressing ... my leg EMG shows a lot more damage than just a year ago. Hope all are having at least a good day here and there!!! Guest guest
Ladies, Thank You!!! This is great information! Since I have been to sooooo many doctors, I have been very bad and not gone to my gyn in about 3-4 years .... I know, I know ... I really need to get there ... I hope he is still alive! ... All 3 generations of my family have been going to the same doctor since my mother had a tumor removed when she was 41. I've gone every year since 16 as we all have ... until the neurosarc hit. My sister and I were discussing this last night ... she said, "Joan, he was old when Mom started going to him .... now, he's reeeealllly old. I really would like to find a dr. closer to my home ... my poor father and niece drive me to all of the other doctor appts. ... most are 1-2 hour drives. I was trying to find a woman this time ... I cannot believe there are no woman gyn's in my area!!! Oh well ... Rosie, I didn't know that gyn's can do hormone tests to confirm menopause ... also, my sex drive is completely gone now too ... I am blaming it on the anti-depressants and other meds ... perhaps I am going through perimenopause. We don't really know when my Mom stopped since she had a full hysterectomy at 41 ... but she did go through horrible depressions beginning right after her surgery and lasted about 10 years. My sister started stopping menstruating at about 49. The dr. told her that if she went a complete year without getting it, that she was in menopause. She was so excited ... until month 12 ... she got it again. She went a full year the 2nd time around though, so she is pretty sure she is done ... she also had horrific hot flashes ... wearing sleeveless shirts outside in the middle of snowstorms. My sister and I both started at 12, so I was using her as my guide ... I was assuming I'd stop at 50. Okay, time to make a call ... again, thanks very much for all of the input I receive! Guest guest
Ok guys you know I must weigh in on this one. Just like everyone else I had been from doctor to doctor to doctor and said, what the hell I give up. So I decided, since I had not had a pap in about 8 million years, that I was going to go have a pap and a mammogram. So I went for my pap, complained about some urine leakage and thought it was probably my bladder dropping again. I carried twins that weighed 8 lbs 1 oz and 7 lbs 3 oz and everything had fallen out once so I thought here we go again. Long story short I ended up at the urologist (my bladder was in the right place) and had testing and was found to have a neurogenic bladder. There is no spinal cord involvement so it is brain related. So when I ask all these doctors why is my brain doing this they say we don't know why but your other symptoms emotion. You know what they can all f**k off. And I mean it. I am smart enough to know that a neurogenic bladder is a very significant finding and it is something they cannot ignore. But they do. So guys, just hang in there with me. I am getting pissed enough again to start raising some hell and they had better watch out. They are going to wish they had never seen me before. I really appreciate you guys being there for me and Rose, I had damned better get a good score for this one....just kidding. No threats just wanted you to be impressed. By the way, and Ron where are you guys. Send a note in so we know all is well. Terri G. Guest guest
Joan, if you don't have a female gyn in your area, look for a certified nurse-midwife who does well-woman care, or an advanced practice nurse who does women's health. Many male docs have NP's or CNM's in their practice. I've seen a NP for the past 16 years; she can do everything except surgery & I trust her completely. She respects my rights & my preferences. I asked her not to use stirrups for the pelvic exam and she agreed to try it, as long as she could do an adequate exam. I haven't used stirrups since. I quit using stirrups for most of my patients years ago. It's much easier to relax. Good luck! Guest guest
Thanks for the plug, Terri! Even many female doctors have the "boss" mentality, or don't spend any more time with the patient than male docs. Ramblin' Rose Moderator Reply-To: Neurosarcoidosis To: Neurosarcoidosis Subject: Re: Weight Gain and Womens' CyclesDate: Sat, 01 Apr 2006 23:41:21 -0000Hey Guys,I have to agree with Rose; NP's are great. When I was a medicalassistant at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth I worked with a CommanderBartlet who was a NP. I have never learned so much in my life. Weworked infertility and colposcopy clinic together and she was fantasticwith her patients. Because this was a learning facility and it was thenavy, I was taught to do all kinds of stuff. She let me remove IUD's(the navy loves these), she was teaching me how to do ultrasound .....the list goes on and on. I was very fortunate to work with her butsadly have lost touch because she was sent to a new duty station.Well ladies, if you ever get the chance a female NP is a great way togo. There is nothing like having a woman who can understand when yousay the cramps are killing me. There is no way (no offense intended) aguy could ever understand that.Take care.Terri G.~~~~ *** ~~~ *** ~~~ *** ~~~~The Neurosarcoidosis CommunityNS CHAT:- Has been cancelled for now.Message Archives:-http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Neurosarcoidosis/messagesMembers Database:-Listings of locations, phone numbers, and instant messengers.http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Neurosarcoidosis/database
Guest guest
Tracie, I didn't know this information. I had a high prolactin and took Parlodel with clomide too, I leaked all the time, but didn't real make that much milk, just seem to be more of a constant drip system for me . I believe I found this info when I searched using Sarcoidosis and Infertility. It's amazing how much all this stuff most of us went thru for a lifetime, has effected us.
