Guest guest
A VAD is a type of central line device under the skin in the chest. When we aren't using it, it is a lump in his chest, however, when he needs fluids, bloodwork etc. it is accessed like an IV but without the problems. has had so many IV;s that they had run out of veins to use. This is far more humane for him. Alison
Guest guest
> Alison, I f this is the same as a mediport then has one too. I had just never heard of it refered to as that. Accessing is easy and with the use of emla cr. pretty painless. It is just so very important that strict sterile technique be used at all times. has one for blood draws blood transfusions and Iv fluids when needed. We have had numerous infections (3) in 3 yrs. and we are so careful. It just happens. Knowing the signs of infection are equally important as to get cultures and start IV ant immediately when infection is present. I hope it works out for you as it has for us. I think we are having some problems right now, and may need to have it replaced, but it is really worht the effort. Let me know if I can help in any way.
