I have a stepson but he copes pretty well. How old is you step daughter? My son is 9. I think the only issue we have had, due to our mito child, was that he was getting horrible stomach aches all the time. This was at a peak in Gracies health and she was not doing well. We took him to the doctor, he assured him that he is healthy and does not have this disease, and then he was fine. I know it bothers all the children, we are expecting our 5th in Sept., but we really try not to talk about the bad things around them. If you wish to chat more please feel free to email me.

Hi:

Before we had a name for our Leah's problems; we were dealing with cleft

palate issues when her older brothers were 5 and 3 years old. Things

came up with them dealing with our time being gone. It finally came out

in one of our talks with our older son that it's Leah he proclaimed. We

knew our appointments were affecting the kids but to what detail we

didn't know. You may want your stepdaughter to talk to a counselor.

Some one who can help her with the processing of dealing with a sibling

who has an illness. We have had our two sons talk with some one because

there are a lot of issues we can (and some times can't) handle as an

adult that kids have more difficulty expressing their viewpoints. How

old is your step daughter? I know this may be hard to do; but you guys

have a " date " with her doing her thing? We try to take our boys out

separately with even if its just one of us for breakfast or even my

oldest son loves to go grocery shopping with me (it's a two hour ordeal)

so just a thought. There are no easy answers here. Each family

situation is unique. Just letting you know what we did with our kids.

Good luck and may be some of your ideas may work for us so let us know

what you did.
