The meds used on stroke victims cannot be used in children, only adults. Other than aspirin, other blood thinners, and the Mito cocktail there is nothing to prevent, or lesson, the affects of strokes in the Mito kids that have them. It may sound strange to not go to the hospital or doctor when a stroke happens, but we deal with them so often that we know nothing can change the outcome and we will not redo brain scans each time they happen, or do needless tests causing further stress on the child, so we call the doctors to let them know another stroke happened and that's about it. (unless of course it is severe causing breathing problems or total paralysis of a body part) MELAS is the big stroke episode Mito group you would probably recognize. This is one of the types my girls are being investigated for. We have seen the same pattern in Asenath over the past 2 years where she will have a virus and then a stroke. Most of my symptoms have had the same dramatic patterns also where I will have a sudden attack and the affects will last for days, weeks, months, or longer. I have been able to get most back each time though unlike Asenath. This is Porrah's second virus and second stroke episode. Thankfully it is very mild and not something she will be devastated by. I am confident most if not all of this one's affected areas will return to normal. I am just sad that she is proving to do the same thing as Asenath and know that the attack of stroke after stroke can build damage that is unrepairable. She still has many residual affects from the first stroke and so it doesn't help her in regaining these areas when she now has to deal with new ones as well. Thank you all for caring so much for my kids and me. You support is one of the things that helps me get through the hard days! As always, I believe in God's hand on our lives and that He is in control and will help me through these trials. One verse I love is that He will not allow ANYTHING to come into my life that I cannot handle. That, and ALL things work together for good... I cling to these truths. So, thank you all for your prayers and notes of encouragement to me. :) Darla: mommy to Asenath (4), Zipporrah (5 mon.-Got her 1st tooth today!), and the gang Re: Zipporrah Klein update So sorry to hear that Zipporrah is not doing so well. I will keep her in my mind, and hopefully she can recover from some of the damage. Have you taken her to the doctor about this? What do they say? I thought there was some type of medication to help reverse some damage due to strokes, if taken soon after the stroke. I don't know if this is possible for her type. Just maybe a thought of hope.
