Debbie,

I was unable to take the stimulants - they make me itch - so my doctor

started me on Cytomel. It is T3 - a thyroid hormone. It really has

helped but I am becoming used to it. I will bump it up to twice a day

soon. The only side effect that I have is that right after taking it

makes my heart beat fast but then it settles back.

Well, those are my two cents.

doing water exercises in my arthritic water exercise class, I knew it

was time to do something about it. I talked to my doctor and my psych.

doctor and they both said it was because it was all the meds I was on.

Most of them had side effects that caused fatigue and drowsiness. So

their first instinct was to cut down on my medications. But I reminded

them we already tried that route about 6 months ago, and it didn't work.

Hi everyone, it's been quite a while since I wrote. Things have been very difficult lately. My mom has been in and out of the hospital with congestive heart failure. Of course, this comes on top of her NS and other sarcoidosis symptoms. To tell the truth, I'm exhausted....mentally. I hope you all don't mind, but I really need to vent. I had to complete the closure of my work place on Valentine's day, since then I've been out of work. I'm looking, but no success yet. I don't guess it really matters though. Mom has needed me so much during the last month I don't know how I would have worked anyway.

Sometimes she is so fatigued and drowsy that she will fall asleep eating, talking, or even on the toilet. Sounds funny to fall asleep on the toilet, until you find out that she fell off and hit the tub bruising herself very badly in several places. None of her doctors have even tried to give her something to help her stay awake. Her nerves are so bad that she often feels like her whole insides are shaking. Does anyone else have that? She has a nurse that comes in twice a week, but the nurse doesn't really do anything other than check her vitals. Moma was in so much pain yesterday that she just kept asking me why God wouldn't just let her die....not an easy thing for a daughter to hear. Especially knowing how much she really means it.

Well, I could go on all day with this, so I guess I'll stop. Thanks for listening. Not sure if I'll get to check emails the rest of the day, looks like we will probably be back in the hospital to get the fluids off.

DuggerHave a blessed day!

My heart goes out to you and to your mom. I wonder with as many meds as she's on-- if she's being overmedicated? Can you talk with her pharmacist--and let him know all that she's on. Maybe something is being duplicated.

As for the pain-- can her md give her the Duragesic patches, or a morphine pump? That would help her be more comfortable-- and if she gets some sound rest-- she may not be as sleepy. Does your mom have sleep apnea? Is she on a cpap or bi-pap machine?

The only time our body actually heals is during sleep. The rest of the time--our energy is spent keeping our organs functioning --so until we can slow ourself and rest-- that's when the energy can be used for healing.

Take care,

Debbie, initially he had me take 10mg about 8am & repeat at noon. That helped a little, in that it kept me awake most of the day, but I didn't really have any more energy. Then one month I was accidentally given 20mg tablets (I never did figure out if the doctor's office or the pharmacy made the mistake), so I was taking 20 at 8am & noon. At first I didn't notice, because I get different-looking pills all the time. But after a week or so, I realized that I was having a bit more get-up-and-go. Didn't do much when I got there, but I did get up! I kept forgetting to call the doctor's office to see if I was supposed to have gotten 20mg (I really did forget, for you cynics), so after a couple of weeks, I decided to just finish out the month. When I needed a new rx (they can't give refills of Ritalin), I called the office & the rx was back to 10mg. After taking that for awhile, I could tell a definite difference, so at my next appt. I asked him if I could go up to 20 & that's what I've been taking for the last several weeks. Basically I'll have about 2 days of the week that I can get some stuff done (vacuum, wash clothes, maybe some extras like cleaning out the fridge), then I'm not good for much for the next couple of days. , I know what you are thinking: that I'm not good for much anytime! Uuuuuuuufffffff!

So, Debbie, was that any help? I haven't had any problems, my b/p has been fine, I've tolerated it well.

, I'm truly sorry that you and your mom are going through this. Would it possible to get a home health aide to help with bathing, etc. & to give you a respite?

When you have time, could you list the meds your mom is on? Some of her symptoms could be drug side effects or interactions. Also, who is managing her pain? She really needs a pain specialist & if she sees a pain specialist & isn't getting relief, then someone else. One of my friends finally was referred to an oncology (cancer) pain specialist, who told her that her pain was similar to that of someone with terminal cancer & he treated her accordingly.

Please know that you & your mom are in my thoughts & prayers right now.

I fell asleep on the toilet & hit my head against the

woodwork. It took me the longest time to get rolled

over & I had to slither across two rooms to get to the

phone to call 911 because I couldn't get up & I hurt

my arms & my legs wouldn't move. I can kinda tell when

I am getting that tired & move to the bed quickly. It

only happened the one time & none of the doctors at

the er here really paid much attention to the fact

that I had sarc. They sent me home with some pain

pills & that was about it. I don't know if your mom

can tell when she's getting that tired or not.

Hi all

I'm going to join in an this one too because it's just too close to home! I've been backing off on some of my pain med's which has been a nightmare because it's increasing the headaches and the joint discomfort, which in turn is making me grumpy. But as some of you may remember because of my Autistic son that's a huge no no! But I found that it really didn't help! So I've been increasing on the caffeine but I guess it's time for something else. But I can fall asleep sitting up anywhere and I'm the type that is use to and has gone through years of living off of only 2 to 4 hours a sleep a day.

Hi Rose, I don't think the 10 mg in the morning is working that well. I can notice some difference, it is keeping me awake , but not enough. The energy level has increased a bit as well. But I still think the doctor needs to increase the dosage. Comparing the dosage to yours , it can be increased. Thanks for helping me out Rose, I appreciate it. I'll let you know what happens.
