Guest guest
Bonnie, I think you should write a letter to the hospital administrator, with a cc to Baughman. Document all of these incidents & what you expect to be done. Crud, they didn't even file an incident report about your fall? Were you examined by a physician, any xrays done? This is epic negligence. Get your friend & sister to help you write it. Don't just rely on the patient survey that is often sent out; send a personal letter to the CEO of the hospital; even cc to the Quality Assurance Department & the state hospital association, county medical association, state health department. This is appalling. I spent over 30 years working in hospitals & any decent hospital will take your complaints very seriously. Ramblin' Rose Moderator Reply-To: Neurosarcoidosis To: Neurosarcoidosis Subject: Just home from hospitalDate: Thu, 16 Mar 2006 04:43:48 -0000I apologize for this being so long.I woke up Saturday morning and could not move my legs and barely move my arms. After 3 hours of not being able to move my legs, I crawled on my stomach to get the phone and called a friend. By this time, it was 3 p.m. She was pretty far away but got to me at about 5 p.m. Ambulance took me to University Hospital in Cincinnati. After exam in ER, we were told I had no reflexes in my legs or feet. I could not stand up at all, and I was admitted. Neuro docs in ER told me something was wrong and they would find out what. Sunday, I saw the Neuro Intern for about a 1/2 hour, assured they would find the problem. I told him that DR. BAUGHMAN, had told my Rheumatologist in September that he said he was "convinced" I had neurosarcoidosis. I had only seen Baughman 2 times in 2004. Neurosarc was diagnosed, but somebody goofed up and told me I did not have it. In September, my Rheumatologist examined me, called Baughman, and they decided it definitely was neurosarc. About that time, my insurance was canceled so I couldn't go back to Dr. Baughman. I asked several times for them to call these doctors, they said they would, but I know they didn't.I was at UC Hospital ER on Saturday the 4th because my heart wacked out. Saw my cardiologist on the 9th and ended up back at UC on the 11.The attending Neurologist came in Sunday, examined me for 5 minutes, and told me "I needed to see a psychiatrist because it was all in my head." She had a snotty attitude and refused to listen to anything that I said about neurosarc or Dr. Baughman. I reported her to patient services hoping that would help, and she was nicer the next day, but that didn't last. I asked the attending and the intern to call Dr. Baughman and my Rheumatologist and they said they would. THEY LIED. They never called either one of them. I was there from Saturday thru Tuesday, she refused to do any tests, she told me she did not know what was wrong but was sure I would get better.( THAT MAKE SENSE?). She decided this on tests results from 2002 and 2004. No matter what I said or my sister said made any difference, she refused to listen. Each time she was asked a direct question, she avoided it. I was finally told on Tuesday that they were sending me to a rehab unit. I kept asking which one but got no answers. The Rehab doctor, Physical Therapist and Attending Neuro all lied to me and told me I was going to Rehab, but the truth is they were sending me home the next day. I had not even walked yet, and I live on the 3rd floor, (33 steps to climb from outside to my apt door). One of the people from social services came to talk to me and I found out that they could not send me out for Rehab because I did not have insurance. I asked to see the doctor again but I saw the doctor or 2nd shift. He told me that I was scheduled to go home on Wednesday without any rehab. He thought I knew this. They were also asked to do tests on my heart that are ordered for April, but they refused to do that as well. I asked the attending why she would not call Dr. Baughman, and her reply was "I don't see anything that would make me think you have neurosarcoidosis, so there is no reason to do any tests." I told her if it ended up that I had neurosarc and I was in the hospital without anything being that I didn't think Dr. Baughman would be to happy about that. She replied "He won't be mad at me."My Rheumatologist called today and I asked her to call Dr. Baughman and talk with him about what happened. How can doctors openly lie and mislead someone and get away with it? They did not call the doctors that I asked them to, but they called a doctor who is no longer my doctor because I dismissed him for his pain pill pushing; they never asked if it was okay to call him either, and I told them he was no longer my doctor. While I was in the hospital, they got me up in a chair to go to the bathroom (the neuro doc ordered no more bed pan, even though I couldn't walk). At first, I had 2 nurses helping, but a nurse decided I only needed 1 person to help me. First time, one person got me up, she let me fall. I hurt my ankle, knee, bruised my leg, and hurt my hip when it hit the bed. She got another nurse to help get me up, and that nurse was furious. She wanted to know why I was up, I told her doc ordered it, she said you can't walk. She refused to let me get up any more. The nurse that let me fall, was holding my hand like a couple would hold hands while walking. She never tried to even stop me from falling, oh and she never said she was sorry. She could have cared less. They called a doctor to come, he never even examined me, and ordered an aspirin for me because my hip hurt. A nurse also tried to give me a drug that I was allergic to.I never got to bathe or brush my teeth until Tuesday because nobody bothered. My friend tried to help me as much as she could but she had a lot going on at home and with work (works part-time weekends, full time during the week and has 2 kids and a sick mom and dad, also just moved back into their house after being in a hotel for 3 months because of a fire.I had had a mild left-sided headache since Saturday afternoon that would come and go. On Monday night, I had a horrible headache (had to be the 3rd worst headache of my life). Nurse gave me an aspirin, and I told her how bad the headache was, how bad I felt, and how much pain I was in, and her reply was "I'm sorry.", walked out and closed the door. I WAS ON THE NEUROLOGY FLOOR.I know that some of you see Dr. Baughman. Do you think I should try to call him and tell him what happened? Has anybody had anything like this happen to them? I saw a total of 12 doctors while I was there, and nobody help. Says a lot for the the medical field doesn't it?Thanks for listening. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.Bonnie ~~~~ *** ~~~ *** ~~~ *** ~~~~The Neurosarcoidosis CommunityNS CHAT:- Has been cancelled for now.Message Archives:-http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Neurosarcoidosis/messagesMembers Database:-Listings of locations, phone numbers, and instant messengers.http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Neurosarcoidosis/database

Guest guest
Thanks Rose I called Patient Services yesterday but no one called me back. Big surprise. No a doctor did not examine me and I did not have any x- rays done. I have been around hospitals for 22 yrs and worked in 2 hospitals, but never heard of anything like this going on. Thanks Bonnie
Guest guest
Bonnie, that sounds like a terrible ordeal, even though we have the NHS here in the UK (most things medical get paid for) I have had problems getting propoer treatment, care and pain relief. After years I seem to be getting some kind of recognition that I know my own body and I know when something is wrong (even if tests dont show anything) I know this doesnt help you right now but I hope you can find a doctor that will give you the care you need. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.Bonnie To help you stay safe and secure online, we've developed the all new Yahoo! Security Centre.
Best Wishes Clair"Bonnie A." wrote: I apologize for this being so long.I woke up Saturday morning and could not move my legs and barely move my arms.
