Guest guest
Rose, Imagination of kids -- I also have what I think is a cute story. I am scrapbooking picutes of us as kids and I ran across a picture of my six siblings and I riding snow horses. We wanted a pony SO BAD- but of course never got one. We had an unusually late snow storm - March 12, 1958, and we went outside and made horses out of snow -- not snow men --snow horses. Mom took pictures of them. We even made a baby horse for our littlest brother. I remember always making horses. WE thought that was great fun to pretend to ride our horses. DotRose wrote: Okay, I just had to share this uplifting story. Some of you may be old enough to remember a roach spray called Real Kill. When I was about 9-12 years old we lived in Tucson, Arizona. Most people had dirt yards back then, but across the street was an extension of the U. of Arizona & they had a grassy area bounded by trees & hedges. They let the neighborhood kids play there & we called it "The Lawn." We played tag, hide & seek, statues, etc. Sometimes we got bored & made up games. The one I remember was Real Kill. One kid was the sprayer & the rest were roaches. The roaches had to crawl around on all 4's while the sprayer tried to tag us. We had safe areas & we would get together and try to get across the open space at once, crawling ever which way. Some would make it, although of course we'd lose a few. If you got tagged, you had to lie on your back with your hands & feet up in the air until all the roaches were dead. I've wondered since then what the passing motorists thought. I'll bet they would never guess the game we were playing! Ah, isn't the imagination of children a wonderful thing? I just get sick from the smellof Raid & that cologne a woman in our office wore thatsmelled like Raid. Guest guest
Rose Yes imagination is the greatest. I think of what kids are missing just playing on the computer or a video game. They're only reacting not really using their own brain. Oh my, don't I sound like my mother? Guest guest
Dot How cool! I've been going through some pictures to get some from " the good ole days " to frame one for each of the family for their birthday. It was supposed to be a Christmas idea but....I'm late again. Guest guest
Dot, I can relate to that. I was so horse crazy that even in Jr. High, I had a herd of stick horses in our shed that I would ride around the yard. I had read "My Friend Flicka" and the sequels several times & I pretended our yard was Wyoming wild country. It must have looked pretty strange for a kid my age riding sticks around the yard. I also built a "horse" in the shed out of a barrel mounted on 2 old chairs, made a head out of something, had a blanket for a saddle & could really make that horse go! Imagination. Lennon made big bucks from it; I just have memories. Well, that's the way the cookie crumbles.
