Guest guest
Ruth, I developed cataracts in both eyes from taking oral Pred for two years. It actually was a good thing in my case. I had terrible eyesight, legally blind; I think 20/400 in one eye & 20/300 in the other. I hate wearing glasses all the time. I used extended wear contacts for 15 years, leaving them in for up to a month at a time without any problems. Then I started having trouble getting them out; I now believe that the sarc was affecting them. Anyway, I had to quit wearing the contacts & back to glasses. But after the cataract surgery, all I needed was reading glasses! For the first time in my life, I could read the clock when I woke up, see well when swimming, etc. One eye is 20/20, the other 20/30. Of course, every surgery carries risks, but cataract surgery is one of the modern miracles in medicine, in my humble opinion. I found out today I have a cataract on my left eye and eye doctor says it may be from the steriod drops I have been using. Is this what happened to you? He talked about surgery and having to do surgery on the right eye too to coordinate my vision. I feel as though Sarcoid has won yet another round! Thanks for any info you can give me!Ruth>> Hi- Went to the eye doc on Fri- said my surgery went well but that they now feel that they > need to do my right eye as the pressure keeps going up and down- they want to do it > sometime next week-everything else is going ok- my mom and i are replaning our trip to > California , we hope to go in June now- am also not going to move in wiht my moms house > right now either- doctor feels that since u have to take a ferry back and forth and they dont > run late nite that if there was an emergency it would be a problem-right now u have to have > a helicopter pick u up off the island in an emergency and bring u to Seattle when the ferry > isnt running->~~~~ *** ~~~ *** ~~~ *** ~~~~The Neurosarcoidosis CommunityNS CHAT:- Has been cancelled for now.Message Archives:-http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Neurosarcoidosis/messagesMembers Database:-Listings of locations, phone numbers, and instant messengers.http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Neurosarcoidosis/database
Guest guest
Ruth, for me they used "conscious sedation," where you are given meds to relax & sedate you. I also had a portable CD player that they provided and I listened to Elvis going in & waking up. I don't remember a thing after they started pushing the cart to the O.R. I had no pain afterward. I had the surgeries a month apart & it was the same both times. I think the music really helped; ask if they provide CD players & if not, if you bring your own. At my hospital they use music therapy a lot. My vision is really bad without my glasses and I had to give up contact several years ago. He said I would need thinner lenses I know. And I JUST bought new glasses! I am going to get a hand held recorder for a memory backup!! It kind of freeks me out that you are awake for this. I sure wish the Lord didn't think I was so strong! Thanks for the info!L & PRUth~~~~ *** ~~~ *** ~~~ *** ~~~~The Neurosarcoidosis CommunityNS CHAT:- Has been cancelled for now.Message Archives:-http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Neurosarcoidosis/messagesMembers Database:-Listings of locations, phone numbers, and instant messengers.http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Neurosarcoidosis/database
Guest guest
Hi Ruth- they are not sure what caused my eye problems I am sure it was te sarcoid but everytime i ask about what caused a medical problem they say they dont know but that it could have been the ns- I also took/take steroid drops and they never told me that that may be the problem so i am intrested that u were told that- many times i find out more info from others on the NS line then the doctors tell me-it does make sense about the drops because i started using them in my blind eye which i was having no problems with and then i suddenly devoloped glacoma in it. this is how my left eye started out first glacoma then a few months later cateracts- te one nice thing sbout it is that the surgery is not that bad- a little scary the first trime but i had no proplems and easy the secound time as i knew what to expect-the one nice thing is i can see w/o glasses for the first time in 40 years - Matt --- olehomepla olehomepla@...> wrote: > Hi Matt, I hope you don't mind my asking about your > eye surgery.
