hi, jessica has these circles too. hers come from lack of oxygen. when we put her on o2 the circles get much better. pulmo doc told me its the tissues around eyes nose and mouth not oxyagenating very well. we really see an increase in energy too when we give her o2.

michele, mom to jessica, mito- DNA depletion, intractable seizures, g-j tube, supra-pubic tube, dysautonomia, bi-pap, 02 dependant, MR, PDD, two port central line named george and nemo. and of course the largest collection of naked barbies in the world ( well almost)

Tamara,

Hi! I'm sure you will get tons of responses to your post. This subject has been a topic post before and I can remember seeing alot of responses.

My son has always had the purplish/blue coloring under his eyes..some days worse than others. I understand what you mean about how it gives the appearance of being "ill" all the time. also gets this discoloration around his mouth and nose. I think there was talk about autonomic dysfunction in the previous discussion. I think you could also call it the "Mito Look"

I do at least..... :)

As you know by now (with the number of responses) that this is

definately a mito thing. My youngest, still undiagnosed, gets them

bad like her sister (with mito). People tell me I am paranoid to

think she has mito too, but with the circles, and red cheeks (also a

mito thing) how can I not think she has it. definatley worse when

she is sick or the least bit tired.Looks like she hasn't slept in

weeks. Rest assured now this is what it is from, though sorry now

cure for it that I know of. Just another unique thing about our

kids!!!

My 8 year old will gets the dark purple circles, we figured out it was

allergies. If I change her pillow case every 3 days they completely go

away. Just my experience, and alot of laundry! Patti

We have that same look in our house with Hailey and sometime Brenna. It is much more so during illness, exercise or being tired.

Tamara, I think the dark circles are related to allergies. Both my sis and I have horrid allergies and both have chronic dark rings under our eyes. I use makeup to cover mine, but I am a darker shade of light, so sometimes it is not as noticable. Prior to getting her tonsils out, my sis was always asked how she got the black eyes.

Dark circles under the eyes can also be a sx of aspiration. It would go along with dusky pale color, red rimmed, watery eyes, and a raspy voice or chronic gurgle in the back of the throat. There should also be coughing and gagging, unless the aspiration is silent. HTH
