Guest guest
Barb, I have peripheral neuropathy--severe in my feet & just starting in my hands--and I'm on Cymbalta & Lyrica for it. I recently went to a pain center mostly for my back pain (got an epidural steroid injection that reduced it from average of 8 to 2-3; hope it lasts for awhile!) and I asked about the P.N. because it was listed in their brochure. The doctor said that the Cymbalta & Lyrica are currently considered the best combination. Cymbalta is an antidepressant that also helps neuropathic pain. I previously took Neurontin & Cymbalta, but had to quit the Neurontin after spacing out & having a close encounter with a telephone pole. I don't think the Lyrica is quite as helpful, or maybe it's the neuropathy worsening. Along with the meds, I find that keeping my feet warm really helps. Even if my feet don't feel cold or cool to the touch, if they are not warm enough they hurt more. So even in summer I wear thick socks when in air conditioning or even with fans blowing. At home I wear 2 pair of men's xl socks, because if they are even a little snug, that also increases the pain. I have to elevate my feet or they hurt more & most nights I use a wire rack to hold the covers off because it feels like my feet will explode, even tho they are not swollen. I used to use Capsaicin, a cream made of hot peppers, that helped, but it quit helping much & burns like the dickens when you first put it on, so stopped that. There is some very good current info on P.N. at the American Chronic Pain Assoc. website, under "You've Got Nerve!" or something like that. The website is either www.theacpa.org or www.theacpa.com. I think. It's listed in the Links. Hope this helped some. Do you know if anyone is using Human Growth Hormone? What is the best combination of drugs for neurosarcoid that is affecting the peripheral nerves? I am having more and more difficulting wallking. Thanks, Barb __________________________________________________
Guest guest
I find that I have less pain in my feet and legs if I wear my slippers, I wear them all year round, they are warm and fuzzy inside, I find the air conditioner to cause great pain if to my feet if I don’t have on my slippers.
