We saw a PT therapist who has worked with a MELAS patient for a couple years now and I really appreciated her knowledge. She saw muscular tightness (all over), muscular floppiness, left-sided neglect issues (worried about this one-not sure if she has visual issues or just stroke damage that has caused crossing midline issues-she doesn't follow to the left, etc.), and asymmetry in her movements. We will be doing therapy weekly with PT, OT, and probably SP/eating later after the GI testing, but thankfully, they said they do only 1 appointment per week at first to not over-stimulate her and teach me daily home stretching exercises to help her. And, even better, the lady I saw said she would rearrange her schedule to be able to see Porrah at the same time as Asi (By the way, this is her nickname= pronounced As-ee) on Mondays so it means only one trip to the hospital a week. YEH! Asi also has OT at home one hour per week and SP/cog. 2 hours per week at home. I really liked this therapist. She even is careful to watch lactic acid levels with her therapy. So I guess she knows more on that than I do! Darla: mommy to Asenath Get more from the Web. FREE MSN Explorer download : http://explorer.msn.com
