It's their "fall back" diagnosis when they don't know what's wrong with you and/or they don't want to find out.

BINGO!

I keep thinking that our response to this "depression" issue is that we need to tell the docs, yep, "you're right- I'm depressed. My brain chemicals are screwed up secondary to my sarcoidosis. All of you docs are copping out and using this as my diagnosis instead of opening your computers and spending some time looking up and educating yourself on sarcoidosis.

There is so much more information out there than there was even 3 years ago--that Doc, you're out of touch--and I want you to help me. If you spend some time = and I know that I'm the only patient you may ever see with advanced sarc-- but I need your help and expertise. Don't blow me off with it's all in your head-- because that's a copout.

I would tell you if I was depressed. I'd pony up and tell you my marriage has gone to hell- if that was so. But it's not. I'm sick, you think the only treatment is prednisone, and that's not the case.

If I had diabetes you'd be able and willing to help-- if I had lupus you'd be able and willing to help. I have NS, pulm NS, and all the stuff that goes with it. I need you to be willing and help me find alternative treatments so that I'm not so frustrated with the medical field telling me I'm depressed.

Damnit, I'm sick!"
