Guest guest
I choked on my coffee when I read that you feel that digesting food takes too much energy. I have been telling 's GI that very thing for months and months, and have gotten nothing but dumb looks and blank stares. is currently on 100% TPN and is like the energizer bunny compared to how she usually acts. She is only sleeping 14 hours a day compared to 18, her eyes are tracking better, she is scooting/bunny hopping all over the place, and is quicker to respond to us. She has been on continuous g tube feeds for just about her whole life and has this on again-off again intolerance. She's had all sorts of GI tests and seems like a different kid each time they do the test, depending on her energy level. When they try to give her full strength feeds, she typically does OK for a few hours, then gradually gets higher and higher residuals, then suddenly shuts down completely, has an autonomic crisis, loses consciousness, and her belly blows up. Then the residents freak out and think that she's obstructed, hook her g-tube to drainage, and she pulls out of it by the time the x-rays are back. It's happened so many times that I want to scream " listen to me! I told you so! " will be having a surgical j tube next month, since she's had way too many aspiration pneumonias and she already had a fundoplication. I know that TPN can be bad but I'll sure miss this perky, playful when she goes back to enteral feeds. Guest guest
Heidi, The dietician here at Children's Hospital in Denver was telling me about a canned enteral feeding which has the protiens broken down further than the others on the market. She said that it is much more easily digestable due to that. So some of the professionals agree you both. Guest guest
has been on neocate Jr. since she was 13 months old. Before that she was on mommy milk and didn't gain weight very well. We have since found out that she doesn't digest long chain triglicerides. The problem that we've had with enteral feeds is that needs a huge volume to keep her fluid levels up and she doesn't tolerate the neocate going that fast because of the osmolality and (?) the energy that it takes to digest it. The new plan is j tube feeds with IV fluids. What is the formula in a can? Is it liquid or powder?
