Guest guest
The Ill and handicapped waiver or brain injury waiver are plans that the government provides for children such as ours. It provides in home services, nursing care, medicaid, medical equipment, home improvements for handicapped children, etc. (For instance-they just bought Asenath's wheelchair.) Talk to your local Department of Human Services and ask for applications for one. It is a lot of paperwork and time, and it can have a long waiting list, but once on it, it can really help in many different ways. Feel free to ask further questions if you have any. Guest guest
The best way to decide this would be to talk to someone in the waiver program near you. They would be able to estimate an approximate amount you would receive monthly and what all your child would qualify for. I do know we receive more than the amount you receive every three months EVERY MONTH! So this could be something to definitely check into. Nursing care is part of the brain injury waiver and I think the ill and handicapped waiver as well. (Others can correct me if I am wrong there.) We qualify for up to 20 hrs. per week but only have been using about 6-7 hours thus far and we just started that for when we are out of town on Thursday evenings, so we don't have to take her with us. The medicaid is part of the waiver but only a part of it. There are many other things that you receive with the medicaid. Sorry if this is confusing. Keep asking questions if you need more help.
